Good reasonably priced restaurant in New York City?

Does anyone have any good restaurants to recommend in New York City? My family is going to NYC for my 18th birthday and I need some ideas for the birthday dinner. It shouldn't be too expensive. (Entrees Under $35 if possible).

I think you'll have to give us a bit more information on what you are looking for. Your price point is fine. Many restaurants will have entrees under $35.

I recco CIBO, corner of 41st and 2nd Avenue - offering varied menu in your price range - nice setting, good service.

I don't really have any preferences. I like all cuisine. Foreign cuisine is good. Nothing vegetarian or vegan though. I love meat but it doesn't need to be a steakhouse or anything.

Here are my choices that may be unique to NYC and few other cities:

LUNCH

Carnegie Deli or Katz Deli for pastrami sandwiches. I think Katz has the better pastrami.

Bao Haus - pork belly bao is excellent

DINNER

Korean restaurant with a view

Buddakan

Otto (still my favorite pizza place)

Do start by reading the Forum's resident Food Guru, Ziggy's great blog www EatingwithZiggy.com and look at the areas of the city that interests you. Hell's Kitchen, Chelsea, the Village. My personal recommendation for an 18 th birthday would be Balthazar's in Soho.

Jake, there are 20,000 restaurants in the NYC metro area - where are you staying - are you familiar with the City at all - check www.menupages.com or www.eater.com for some insight on places too numerous to mention here on TA.

When is your trip??

Good luck!

It's for an 18th birthday celebration -- something special but nothing outrageously expensive. I don't think it matters where they are staying. How do you look at a 20K restaurant listing if you're not familiar with what is out there.

Suggest some names where you would take your nephew or son out to dinner for a birthday celebration if the person doesn't visit NYC too often.

It's very important to know the areas of the city the birthday boy and family will be spending time in. No point listing places that would be off the beaten path for them. +1 for Poppa's advise as well as for him to look at ?Menu pages and food blogs for better information. Blogs show photos of the dishes, rate the service etc. aside from Ziggy I suggest the OP go to Grubstreet, the food section of New York Magazine.
