Getting to an Islanders game from Manhattan

Hey guys, we are looking to catch an Islanders game next March. After reading this thread (tripadvisor.com.au/ShowTopic-g60763-i5-k1098…) , the option to take a train to the Mineola station and taxi it from there looks appealing, I'm just not sure how correct this information still is. Is this still a viable option? We are also looking into a town car maybe, just for ease of use. There will be 4 of us going. Any ideas would be great

Are you going because you're a big Islander fan, or you just want to see a hockey game? Otherwise I'd suggest seeing the Rangers at Madison square garden in midtown. Islander games are quite dull since they don't attract nearly as many fans as Ranger games.

Another option is the Jersey Devils in Newark. Both Devils and Rangers home games would be MUCH more easily reached from Manhattan than would Islanders games.

Thanks for the feedback, we might consider switching. Are the games at Yankee stadium ok to watch?

Yankee Stadium is baseball.

Baseball doesn't play in March.

If you're coming at a time when there is a game at Yankee Stadium, yes, it is great.

Go with the Jersey Devils or much easier and much livelier Rangers at Madison Square Garden if you can get alignment with your dates.

Agree with above. However, one thing to note: getting good/better tickets are likely to be much cheaper for Islander games than for Rangers games.

For someone who's interested in the game itself and is a fan, the best seats tend to be midway up on the sides (not the ends) - opinions vary. However, for someone who is more interested in just the atmosphere, and seeing the "action" some of the best seats are the first row against the glass in the corners. Very fun to watch a game there but can be difficult to follow the game down the ice. For these seats, Islander tickets can be had for MUCH CHEAPER than Rangers tickts.

And much more real fans at an islanders game. The Rangers are playing 2 games this year at yankee stadium. However I think there both in January and would not reccomend it for a first time hockey game.
