Airporter shuttle - JFK to grand central

I've seen that there is a company called NYC airporter shuttle, and I know the shuttle services haven't got a great rep but has anybody used it and think its okay.

It's just a lot cheaper from a cab and seems easier than using the subway

Thanks :)

I've only used SuperShuttle and they are pretty good. They will drop you off at your hotel/residence. It's very convenient and way cheaper than a cab. The only downside is that you'll be in the shuttle for a while if you're one of the last person they drop off. But if you don't mind that, go for it.

The consensus of this forum is very different from what mzapple said. There are numerous threads that say that Super Shuttle is generally terrible in New York City, accompanied by many horror stories of people who were forced to wait hours for vans to fill at the airport, or who never had the super shuttle van show up at all. It is also not cheaper than a taxi if you have several people travelling together, and it is more expensive than taking the AirTrain and the subway, which can be much, much faster.

The Super Shuttle is different than the NY Airporter Bus. The NY Airporter Bus also has mixed reviews but is not a bad option, especially if going FROM one of the airports TO Grand Central Station.

The NYAirporter has a stand or uniformed worker at each terminal of each airport. You can buy a ticket online beforehand, from the worker, or on the bus. The buses come regularly, but not as regular as they say. The buses can be crowded but usually you'll get a seat. The buses are in nice condition and have leather seats - and WiFi which is supposed to work, but may not. The drivers are usually nice. They stop at each terminal on the way out of each airport ... and then good luck with traffic to Grand Central, but hey, you have a comfortable leather seat, perhaps WiFi and a cheap ride.

I recently took this service from JFK to Grand Central early in the AM. First bus was supposed to be at 5am, didn't come till 530am. Took 20-30 minutes of stops before we actually got on the highway, but were in Grand Central in about 35 minutes. So for $16 bucks it was great. A more crowded time of day, you'll get there but be prepared for more travel time.

I think most of the issues are going FROM Grand Central to the Airports (plan plenty of extra time and consider train instead) and with the mini-shuttles they offer to your hotel after the bus drops you off at Grand Central.

The Airtrain and LIRR combination is even easier than the subway, and the subway isn't hard. It can be a little tricky if you have lots of luggage. Where is your destination? We can describe the route for you.
