More questions for our first NYC Trip.

Hi, we are looking forward to our 1. Trip to NYC next month. It will be our 50.Anniversary celebration & we are very excited.

Have purchased the 7 day NYC Passes and plan to buy the 7 day unlimited Metro passes. We hope to see as many of the tourist attractions as possible. Hopefully we will be able to come back in a couple of years and explore more of Brooklyn, Queens and surrounding areas.

Have reservations at the Staybridge (40th & 8th Ave.) We'll arrive at JFK at 8pm. Will probably take a cab to the hotel. I read that we can the Air Train to Jamaica & there get on the E Train to 42th & 8th. We will have 2 carry-on suitcases and handbag. Would it be fairly safe to ride the subway with luggage at this time of the evening? We are lucky enough that the stairs won't bother us too much and we plan on doing a lot of walking while in the city.

Sept. 11. (Wed.) will be our 1. day in the city. The Memorial will probably be too crowded, so we are planning to walk the city and maybe get on the Staten Island Ferry.

Sept.12. (Thurs) NBC Studio, Top of the Rock, Rockefeller Center. Maybe we can squeeze in the Empire State Bldg. & Sky Ride.

Sept.13. (Fri)Wall Street Walk & FDNY Fire Zone Tour. Times Square Walk.

Sept. 14. (Sat) Circle Line Cruise. Take train to Brooklyn, check out the city and walk the Brooklyn Bridge back into Manhattan.

Sept.15 (Sun) Statue of Liberty & rent bikes in Central Park.

Sept. 16. (Mon) 9-11 Memorial

Sept. 17. (Tue) our plan leaves at JFK at 6pm. So we have a half day to explore.

I know that we have to have reservations for NBC Studio and the Wall Street Walk.

Don't know if we need reservations for the Sky Ride in the Empire State Bldg.

Hope to see a museum or Carnegie Hall, etc. if we have the time and appreciate any suggestions you might have.

So, here are my questions: Would it be o.k. to take the Subway to the hotel after 8pm?

Do we need any other reservations aside from NBC Studio & Wall Street Tour?

Does anybody have any experience (good or bad) with the NYC Pass?

This is a wonderful & helpful forum and I have learned a lot for our 1.trip.

Thanks everybody for all of the informative posts!!

I wouldn't want to be in the subway or city at 10 pm with luggage. It will take about 2 hours on the train to make it to the city from the airport. The rush hour crowd is finished by then. However, I find the most pleasant time for the subway is about 8 pm, this is without any luggage.

Ye, it would be safe to take the train from the airport to your hotel. (Make your decision based on how tired you are and how tight your budget.)

The Sky Ride seems to disappoint most people. tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g60763-d27…

Congratulations on your anniversary!

Yes, it is perfectly safe to take the subway to the hotel after 8 pm, and into all hours in the night.

You've already bought the passes, so enjoy them, and use them to your advantage. Sort out what is most important to you, and focus on those things. Check out reviews of the attractions, search the forum, and see what is worth your time and not. For example, you might be surprised if you plug "Skyride" into the forum search box.

If you only staying in the city, have you considered a weekly bike pass instead of a train pass?

It is unlikely to take 2 hours to get in from the airport. http://goo.gl/maps/tDrKS

Citibike bike share only allows you to use the bikes for 30 minutes without incurring overtime fees. The program is fairly new, so bikes may not yet available in all the locations you will want to visit, so if you use them it will probably be as a supplement to the buses/subways instead of a replacement. http://citibikenyc.com/

Huh^^^???

The subway is very safe and you should have no issues if you plan to travel from the airport. The bike pass for a week is not a good idea as stated above.
