There is no Sky Train from Penn Station to JFK.

What you need to do is get the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) from Penn Station to Jamaica, which takes around 20 minutes, and then you'll get the AirTrain from Jamaica to your terminal, This second bit will take around 10 minutes.

Personally, I'd leave around 45 mins in total to get boarded, change, and get to the airport via this route.

You can purchase a combined "CityTicket" for the Long Island Rail Road and JFK AirTrain ticket for something like $9.00.

I believe that when you buy the combined ticket - issued on LIRR ticket stock - you will not have to pay the additional $1.00 MetroCard purchase price.

Go to the LIRR portion of the MTA website at www.mta.info to see LIRR schedules - trains are very frequent and it is a very short trip to Jamaica. You'll see the JFK AirTrain at Jamaica - it is an easy / seamless transfer between the LIRR and the JFK AirTrain with lots of uniformed staff to answer any questions.

It can take as little as 35 minutes but always good to leave at least 45 minutes. Still faster than a taxi and you get a savings of close to 85%. Train is definitely the way to go.
