You don't tell us where on West 35th Street or where on East 51st Street.

You also do not tell us whether the departing flight is domestic or international.

I'm going to make the assumption that you are going to West 35th Street near 6th Avenue as there are several hotels including the Hotel Metro in that immediate area.

Fastest, safest, easiest and most economical is to take the JFK AirTrain from right inside the terminal to Jamaica. They're clearly marked - good signage and clear / audible announcements.

Simply take the JFK AirTrain to the end at Jamaica (about 10 - 15 minutes at most). You would pay the $5.00 JFK AirTrain exit fare at Jamaica. You can purchase a combined JFK AirTrain / Long Island Rail Road "CityTicket" to New York Penn. It would be approximately $9.00 per person.

Board the next Long Island Rail Road train to New York Penn - they're every 3 - 10 minutes and take 18 - 22 minutes. Hold on to your ticket - the conductor will collect it.

Penn Station is one block from the hotel - exit at 34th St. / 7th Avenue.

Returning to JFK, you can take the Queens bound E train at either Fifth Avenue / 53rd or at Lexington / 53rd. Get off one stop before the last stop - Sutphin / Archer / LIRR / JFK AirTrain. Take the JFK AirTrain into your terminal.

Do not accept rides from people soliciting at the airport.
