Need help with family stay in New York City

My family and another family are planning to vacation near New York City in mid July. We are hoping to find a place that will accommodate all of us (5 adults, 3 teenagers, 1 child) and that has a kitchen and possibly a swimming pool. Does anyone know of any nice rental homes or resort type hotels that have reasonable rates?

What is a "reasonable rate" and what are the dates of your visit? I don't think what you're looking for exists, but with that info maybe someone can suggest something.

When you say "near Mew York City," do you mean you want to be able to visit Manhattan from this resort, or that you want a resort in the general vicinity of New York City?

You will not find a lot that sleeps 9 people. Even two hotel rooms would be a stretch.

When you say near NYC, do you mean you will be visiting NYC during the day and returning to the place "near NYC" at night? Or do you mean you will not be going into the city and just holidaying wherever you find a place.

Commuting into NYC for 9 people will be pricey and the traffic sucks and parking is pricey.

No legal rentals in NYC, there may be in NJ, but then you have to commute.

$400/night for 9 people with a kitchen and swimming pool within an hour of NYC? ROTFLMAO!!!

1) Very few houses sleep 9 people

2) NO ONE with a decent house will rent it for short stays ESPECIALLY if it has a swimming pool and is within commuting distance to NYC. IF they rent, it would be for at least a month and more likely for the summer. Give up the pool and here are a few things to consider.

This house in Queens was used by forum posters some years ago under the name

collectionofresidences.com

but I found it on vrbo here

There are 3 houses listed on vrbo in Staten Island for a group your size. I know nothing about them personally.

The only things I think that would come close with a pool is a few rooms at a hotel in a neighboring area like Tarrytown, NY which has a few hotels. But understand most people who live there have cars to get around, the train station may not be walking distance to the hotel.

There are hotels in Secaucus/Meadowlands area of New Jersey that are popular with families and some of those will have pools. We normally don't recommend that area because it requires taking a bus (rather than a train) which makes the travel unnecessarily long, but it may suit your needs.

Exactly what town are you planning to vacation in?? You should go to that towns forum and ask for information there. If you plan on doing all your time in NYC, then you need to increase your budget (and nix the pool) and look at hotels in say...Long Island CIty which is recommended a lot on here.
