Street Food Search

I'm looking for your personal favorite picks for street food. I want to start following these vendors on Facebook and Twitter so I can find them when we visit next month. I took a peek at the 2012 Grub Street Food Festival vendors - anyone here spark your interest? Any we should avoid?

Last time I was in the city, I checked out Rickshaw Dumplings, the Dosa Man in the Village, and Pies and Thighs. Hoping y'all can point me to what's new, hot and notable. Thanks!

I like Alan's Falafel on lower Broadway between Liberty and Cedar (in front of the big red cube) but it is old-school street food, not new-wave street food. If you want a truck, Wafels and Dinges for dessert (try the specaloos ice cream). Eggplant schnitzel from the Schnitzel truck is good but I don't eat meat which is what all of their other stuff is so I can't speak to that. I'm just grateful for veg food that goes beyond steamed vegetables.

BatteryPark stole my recommendation of Alan's falafel.

The schnitzel truck has eggplant schnitzel?!? You've made my day!

Mmm ... halal! Yes that will defintely be added to the list.

Schnitzel?? How did you know I was German :) Perfect!

And HOW could I forget Wafels and Dinges? I stopped at one of their carts during the Quidditch World Cup the last time I was in town. Oh yes, they are certainly worth a return trip.

Thanks for the link, C5LS1. I'll be sure to comb through it.

These are great suggestions! Any others?

Many of the ones on the Grub Street list may participate in festivals like this to promote their food but they are not considered street food. Like Ilili and Family Recipe for example are established restaurants. Since you are from NOLA, the owner of Family Recipe lost to the owner of Boucherie (loved our meal there) on Chopped.

Now that I have more time...

Taim Mobil - If I have to pick one that's what I'd pick. I haven't tried the truck but did eat at their west village location. Try the falafel, Sabich sandwich (BB its a great veggie sandwich in case you haven't tried) and the milkshakes.

Luke's Lobster - lobster rolls

Arepas Caracas right next to Luke's

Arancini Bros.

Hong Kong Street Cart

Halal Cart on 51st and 11th

Big Gay Ice Cream - Never tried but its popular and I like the name

Rubirosa Pizza-Mobile

Roberta's Pizza

Furn Shawarma - nice chicken shawarma

ok, gotta run.. to the fridge. Leftover Carbonara
