JFK Layover

After reading some related topics we are really going back and forth on what to do. We arrive at 8 am from Los Angeles, then depart @ 5:30 pm for Berlin. Our baggage will check through so wont have to worry about that. We would like to go into town to see the 911 memorial if possible. This is on a Sunday if that makes a difference. I would think it would on street traffic if nothing else.

If we do decide to go, what would be the best way to get into town. We wont be looking to spend a bunch of time downtown, just see the memorial, maybe get a slice of pizza, then hustle back and get in line at security.

If this doesn't seem realistic, and there is even a chance we would miss our flight, then the next question would be is there anything to do in the airport for 9 hours or anything a short cab ride away?

It sounds like you will have plenty of time to do that, no problem. Just be back to JFK by 3.

You'll need advance tickets to the memorial. Be sure you book them early. On a Sunday, I'd probably just take a cab, since the subway doesn't run as frequently, but make sure you check and know that there aren't any major road closures that would affect your route.
