Melrose Hotel - closed? renovations?

Just wondering why the Melrose website is out of date (expiration package deals advertised expired June ... 2005 and the calendar shows no availability.

Is it closed? Someone we shared a cab to Midtown with several years ago had reservations there and looked like a nice hotel although it was the Barbizon then.

Just curious :-)

Yes, I think it may have been sold again. It looks like they are renovating and that it is going to be the Barbizon when it opens again -- whether as a hotel or condos I don't know.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. :-)sometimes wonder if changing a hotel's name is a good idea. Wondering about the Melrose jogged some memory cells, wasn't the Barbizon originally where Grace Kelly and other genteel ladies lived?

Their website indicates it will be reopening as luxury condominiums.

Thanks NY Whiz, spent a Happy Hour browsing some photos of the city's eclectic architecture on the online walking tours. Barbizon certainly was a landmark in its heyday but whatever about a couple of nights stay, the chances of ever affording one of these new luxury condo's are nil and none :-)

Unless ... the National Lottery obliges ..
