Blakely or Kimberly Hotel? Opinion Please!

Hi!

We currently have a reservation for the Blakely for 5 nights in March. Am still searching for deals if there is one to be had. See on travelocity that we could book the Kimberly for a comparable price. The Blakely website is more appealing to us. But Kimberly tends to cost quite a bit more and also has great reviews. So is it a much nicer hotel? We'd have a 1 bed suite in either hotel. We will be traveling with our young daughters.

Thanks for any help you have!

Tessie

I haven't seen the rooms in either but from what I read, the 1 bedroom suites at the Kimberly are probably larger. The biggest difference is location. The Blakely is one of the few all suite hotels on the west side near the theater district and Times Square. The Doubletree Guest suites TS and the Rihga Royal are 2 others.

There are some other all suite options near the Kimberly. The Affinia 50 which has very large suites is right nearby. Hard to advise w/o knowing price differences.

NYwhiz,

The two are both about $285 a night per 1 bedroom suite. Do you think they are comparable hotels? Which locaton is preferable?

Thanks ,Tessie

A lot of people prefer the west side (Blakely) near Times Square & the theaters. Teens seem to love Time Square. The nicest thing about the Blakely is it's near Times Square without being IN Times Square. I've been inside the lobby of the hotel. It's sort of clubby looking with tartan carpet. The lobby is small and there's a restaurant/bar just off it. The 1 bedrooms at the Kimberly are larger. This page gives dimensions from 635-650 sf-.http://www.kimberlyhotel.com/rooms_east_side_hotels.asp

The Kimberly is on the east side nearish to Bloomingdales. The Blakely says their 1 bedrooms are 525sf

I would also look at the Affinia 50 (right near the Kimberly) and the Rihga Royal (near the Blakely. Check prices on quikbook.com to see if they're any better.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of these. If you're going to the theater more than once, staying on the west side might be more convenient.

I stayed at the Blakely Hotel a couple of weeks ago. It was such a comfortable place to stay. The staff were always friendly, and as regards furnishings, it was more like a country manor than a city hotel! A bit of an oasis, away from the hussle and bussle which is on your doorstep! The great plus was having a microwave, fridge and all the cutlery and crockery you need in your room. There's a shop across on 6th Avenue where you can stock up on food if you want. The hotel is located between two tube stations and you're close to the diners which are regularly recommended on this forum. Central Park is literally only a few blocks away!

I haven't stayed at the Kimberly, but we found the Blakely to be great value for money, offered high level of service and couldn't be better located.

Hi Tessie try the site www.hotelconxions.com for the kimberly there doing a one bedroom suite in the kimberly for $235 plus tax. Its the cheapest i could find anywhere. Looking at the reviews of hotels both i think i would book the Kimberly. Hope this helps.

I just returned after a 4 day stay at the Kimberly. I highly recommend it. We had 4 adults and 1 small child in a 2br suite. We decided to stay an extra day and downgraded to a 1 br suite for 3 of us. I was very pleased with the space and cleaniness of the room and the prompt and friendly response of the hotel staff. The rooms are nice with weathered furniture but nothing to really complain about.

I also found the location convenient. It was not a long walk to Times Square at all. I think it took us on average 10-15 minutes (with a small child) and the walk is full of sites at each block (St. Barts, St. Patricks, Rockefeller Ctr, etc.).
