Penn Station to UN

Hello everyone,

It's hard to tell from the map; which subway line should I take from Penn Station to the UN (I realize walking will be involved to get to First Ave.

Thank you for your help.

walking will be involved? not if you are able to walk, it won't be.. just walk up

7th avenue from penn station to 42nd street = 8 blocks= 8 minutes..then turn east and walk over to 1st avenue...that's about 10 blocks= 12 minutes= 20-25 minutes walk..no problem...oh, just walk up to 43rd st and 1st ..that's one more block..AND YOU'RE THERE.

OR take the #1 train to 42nd st and catch the S ( shuttle to grand central

station) and east 42nd st..exit and walk over to 1st avenue..it'll probably take you longer to do that than to walk...

Take any Uptown 1, 2 or 3 train from Penn Station to 42nd Street / Times Square. Although the local and the express trains are on different platforms at Penn Station - all 7th Avenue (the numbered / red symbol) trains stop at both 34th Street / Penn Station and 42nd Street / Times Square.

Simply go downstairs at 42nd Street / Times Square and follow the signs to the 7 train (it is a maroon colored symbol).

7 trains originate / terminate at Times Square so don't worry about getting a train going the wrong direction (at least not until 2013 or something when they may extend the 7 train to the Javits Center - thanks for your tax dollars). Two stops on the 7 train - exit toward the front of the train and you'll be on Third Avenue and 42nd Street.

If you exit at the very front of the train and go up the long escalators to Third Avenue there will be only one way out from those escalators and you'll need to make a right turn onto 42nd Street - cross Third Avenue and continue two blocks to the United Nations (ahead on your left hand side).

There are also frequent M.42 and M.104 buses that run across 42nd Street. You can take a bus from Third Avenue to First Avenue if you so desire (or vice versa).
