Honeymoon in NYC

Hi all,

I will be getting married in December and my fiance and I are thinking of New York as a honeymoon destination. We would be planning to spend 8 - 10 days in the city. We would like to take in all the sights and shopping and a broadway show. We would also like to do one of those helicopter rides over the city. We are to be married in early december and will be returning to Ireland before Xmas day. I presume there will be lots to do in New York coming up to Xmas. Does anyone have any advice or tips for us? Do you think that 8 - 10 days is too long or do you think it is just about right. Can anyone recommend a good hotel 3 or 4 star considering it will be our honeymoon. Thanks in advance.

Hi Congratulations!

Firstly book quick - Christmas is popular and expensive you may find a lot of hotels already gone. Try the Salisbury or the Belvedere they get good reviews - but you will need to specify your budget for people to help out properly and what you mean by good 3/4 star (modern, what facilities etc)

I'm going for 7 days on my honeymoon in two weeks and I've been twice before so no I don't consider 8 - 10 days too long. Buy a travel guide and get an idea of the sites you want to see. City Walks New York is recommended on this site and that's what I'm taking this time with me (got them of Amazon).

Xmas time is great in NY - I was there early Dec last year - ice skating, the window displays and xmas shopping is fab!

Hope I've been of some help

Xmas is the most magical time in NYC. It's also crowded and can get expensive just before Xmas. It's also gotten very busy b/c of the good exchange rate for Europeans and others. You should start checking prices and may want to reconsider coming just after Xmas when it gets a bit less crowded and much cheaper.

The Michelangelo is a lovely 4* hotel. The Millenium UN Plaza is also very nice and has a rooftop enclosed swimming pool. Both will feel a bit more luxurious than the Salisbury (salisburynyc.com) or the Belvedere (look on crshotels.com) which are also good.

There's a website broadwaybox.com that has discount codes for certain shows. It may be a bit early for Dec. dates.

Here's a guide for holiday events from last year. Most are annual.

My husband and I went to New york for the first time last December to celebrate our 10th wedding Anniversary. We loved it so much we returned in April this year for another week! The atmosphere was wonderful at Christmas and I'm so glad we made our first visit then. There is so much to do and see.... Our first visit was only for four nights and we packed loads into it, but anything over a week would give you time to relax a bit more and not tire yourselves out quite so much!

We didn't do a helicopter ride, but I know people who have and they highly recommend it. A Circle line cruise around Manhatten is also really good (cold in December - but well worth it).

As it's your honeymoon you should go to a really swanky bar and have cocktails (we went to The Rainbow Room on our anniversary and drank champagne).

The observation deck at the the Rockefeller Centre will be open again by December. And you mustn't miss the Christmas Tree there too....

Both times we visited we stayed at 'Hotel 41 @ Times Square' a small 'boutique' hotel that gets excellent reviews on here. I can highly recommend it. It's available through Expedia, but contact the hotel directly and ask for a 'superior' room. It's not much more expensive and well worth the extra. The location is fantastic and it's very reasonably priced by NY standards.

I absolutely cannot recommend NY at Christmas highly enough. In fact, the last couple of weeks I've found myself looking at flights and hotels because I'm geting this longing to return at Christmas this year....

GO.... You won't be disappointed!

The most romantic place to visit in NEw York is the observation deck that will open at the Rockefeller center

It will open on November 1st so you are lucky to be one of the first ones going. You can enjoy 360 degreed panoramic views of Manhattan.

I am from New York and we are thrilled to get back this observation deck again !!

Teh best part is that you can get reserved time tickets online and no wait at all when you get there: www.topoftherocknyc.com

Only $14

and the Christmas tree will be ther too !!
