JFK to Mid Town via Taxi

Hi

Are there people mover taxi's ?

We are 5 travellers not keen on the air train after 22 hours travelling. Any recommendations for a private shuttle ? Uber has been suggested but I thought this wouldn't be available.

Thoughts ?

Car services are a good option, Carmel and Dial 7 are the ones most recommended here. Shared Shuttles for 5 people are expensive and they are very slow options as well, with traffic and multiple stops.

Uber X might work for a larger vehicle

There are taxis that hold 5 but you may have to wait for one to become available.

Comparison price car services such as Dial 7, Carmel or Uber.

Yellow cabs are a fixed rate between JFK and Manhattan that usually comes to about $70-75 after tip and possible tolls nyc.gov/html/…AirportTrips

If a 5 passenger Yellow cab is not readily available or you have more luggage than will fit in one cab, two yellow cabs may be similar in cost to a larger car service vehicle.

Uber and the other app services are regulated as car services here - so they must obey those rules. Typically you contact the car service when ready to be picked up and they tell you the car number and where on the curb to meet it. For security reasons cars cannot wait at the terminal curb. They wait in a nearby cell phone lot that is only a few minutes away. You can pay a car service a premium for a "meet and greet" inside the terminal

Use only the Yellow cab dispatcher line or a car service you have arranged. Ignore touts in and around the terminals offering (illegal) rides.

There are cabs that hold 5 passengers but they are less than 10% of he fleet, so it may take a whie to get one. Also realize this is not realistic to get back to the airport - trying to hail one on the street could take forever.

Check Dial 7 or Carmel to see hat they will charge for a vehicle to hold all of you and your luggage. Remember the bridge or tunnel toll is $6 and the usual 20% tip is also on top of the fare quoted.

Do NOT consider any form of shuttle - they are fatal.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I will check out car services and Uber x.

Last time there were four of us and we just happened to get a yellow taxi people mover from the taxi rank as next in line.

Not sure what you mean by "people mover." We don't use that term here. Do you mean a van?

Yes sorry. An Aussie description. Van that can move 6-8 people.

They’re called minivans here, and the largest ones we have as taxis seat six (five passengers and the driver).
