travel from LGA to JFK

We arrive from Dallas at LGA at 10:36 AM. We have to go to JFK as we leave there at 5:40 PM. We need to know the best way to get from one airport to another. Also, we would like to store our luggage at JFK and see some NYC sites. Is this possible within the time limits we have? If it is, what would be the best way to see some sights. We have never been to NYC before so we have no idea what might be near JFK.

You really don't have time to do anything much except go from LGA to JFK. The simplest way is to take a taxi.

The public transportation alternative isn't bad, but requires a couple of transfers. First you'd take the Q70 bus nonstop from LGA to the 74th/Roosevelt subway station. There you'd take the E train subway with a destination of Jamaica Center, but get off at Sutphin Blvd/JFK. There you'd go upstairs and get the AirTrain monorail to your JFK terminal.

Does your flight leave JFK at 540 or is that when you need to be there for check in and security?

That will determine if you have any time at all to do any sightseeing. There's really not much to see near JFK. If you do have some time, you will not want to waste most of your time going to JFK and then back.

Schwartz Travel offers luggage storage in Manhattan.

The public transit route between LGA and JFK takes a bus and two trains. A cab is likely easiest.

Allow at least an hour for transport by either method.

Also, if you have an international flight from JFK, you have less time vs a domestic.

You don't have time to go from LGA to JFK, drop luggage, back to the city and then back to JFK. I mean, you do if you get a cab at LGA and he/she agrees to shuttle you back and forth and hold your luggage while you see a little bit of the city.

You could cab it from LGA to Schwartz(as mentioned above), store your luggage, check out Penn Station and the Empire State Building, grab a quick bite to go and circle back to get your luggage and start heading to JFK.

You need to leave the city at around 2:15 for a domestic flight and 1-ish for an international flight.

You need to clarify if your flight from JFK is international (I assume probably) or domestic and if you have given us he flight time to the tie you ned to be back at JFK (3 hours in advance for an international flight).

Strongly suggest you don't really have time to do anything but land at LGA, pick up your luggage (perhaps11 am if your flight is on time) get in a cab (by about 11:15) and take that to JFK (arriving about 12:15 assuming there are no delays; this is a uber heavily traveled road, they are doing construction on part of it and bad weather or a fender bender can cause significant delay). That would give you time to have lunch at JFK before heading for your check in at 2:30.

You say you leave JFK at 5:40 p.m. Does the flight leave at 5:40?

If so, if it's international, you should be there by 2:40 p.m. (that means leaving Manhattan no later than 1:30).

If the flight is domestic, you should be there by 3:40 p.m. (that means leaving Manhattan no later than 2:30).

If the flight is international, and the first flight is on time, that leaves you about 2 hours to do something in Manhattan -- with luggage. It takes about 45 min. to get into the City from LGA, and it takes about an hour - hour and 15 min. to get to JFK from Manhattan. The luggage is your biggest problem. If you have to go out of the way to store it, that gives you less time.

If you really want to do this, I would consider getting an earlier flight here, or a later flight out.
