Hi all , so i have gone and worked out the hotels in my budget using my QFF points and have a list now of them, so its oct 12th for 5 nights, want to be able to be central to shops ( macy's ,saks, etc)

and able to walk around to times square and top of rock etc. Never been before so asking for your opinions on the hotels listed, we are a family of 4, with 2 boys ages 10 and 15.

- Parklane

-Fifty Affina

-Hilton Garden Inn 35th st or Times Square

-Stay Bridge

-Courtyard by Marriott 5th ave

-The Westin NY Times Square

-Stewart Hotel

-Riu Plaza

-Novotel New York Times Square

-Park Central

They all seem in area's i would be ok with and all seem like decent hotels ,any advice is most appreciated .

You can't have it all. The locations closest to stores are not as close to Times Square and aren,t necessarily the best for large rooms for a family of 4. Also, a number of these charge a daily resort fee. I dont know how that works when you're using points.

Affinia 50, Hilton Garden Inn Times Square, maybe Park Central and I think the Stewart have rooms with 2 queen beds vs the more usual 2 doubles you'll find elsewhere. I'd eliminate Staybridge, Courtyard 5th ave. and HGI 35th st. as having rooms that are too small for a family of 4. After that, it just depends on what,s most important to you. Affinia 50 is close to Saks, Rockefeller Center and Bloomingdales...not as close to Times Square and has a pesky resort fee but it also has kitchenette or kitchen in most rooms. Hilton Garden Inn Times Square is not glamorous but big rooms, fridge and microwave and no resort fee. Not as close to dept stores.

Have a look on

Thanks nywiz, this is the information i need to make decisions , i guess at night time if we want to go out it might be nice to be able to walk, especially to times square, and broadway to catch a show, so feeling safe and comfortable to walk at night is important too, and during the day walking a little further to boutiques and other attractions is ok and we will use the subway too ,once we work it all out.

These are all safe locations. Using google maps to check distances will help you understand what's closer to what. I do think you need to find out how those pesky resort fees are handled when you're paying with points.

Yes nywhiz, they are built in to the points and they clearly tell you on the booking site, for Fifty Affina it would be and extra $178 AU so this is pricey, i will look into the other hotels you thought would suit, also it is the last leg of our trip and we will have lots of luggage to take home so the room being bigger is a bonus, even if it is not as flashy as some other hotels.

Thanks Erinyes 3, yes my boys hate the shops, and we do want to wander around at night , so good restaurants and cafe's would be more important, also being able to walk to Times Square at night might be good, we want to go to a couple of shows on Broadway , and Top of the rock for dinner/sunset, and maybe a cruise around to see Statue of Liberty at night might be good too.

Is there an area we should stay in that has good cafe's and restaurants that might be good for a family with teens?

Im torn between staying up near Central Park or Down near Times Square for being central.

We are also going to want to go to the 9/11 memorial so all over really. Also want to find something fun for the boys to see and do, the shopping is for me to go and have a day of wondering around while the others go to a museum etc.
