Time to get from Hotel del Coronado to SAN

How early would we need to depart, by cab, for an 8:40 a.m. weekday flight on Southwest (not the commuter terminal)? What about a 3:30 p.m. flight? Thanks!

Are you leaving on an International flight or a Domestic flight?

Do you have a choice between a flight at 8:40 am or a flight at 3:30pm?

Southwest. Domestic. Haven't booked yet. WN has several flights to SEA that day, but trying for a non-stop, and the two times listed would be best.

Well, of course, I'd take the afternoon flight. Leaving you some extra time and a final lunch. The key is that the military personnel start leaving Coronado around 2:30 so there is traffic 'leaving' on the bridge. And it does back up. So you will be fine leaving at 1:30ish. You'll get to the airport before 2:00 which is more time than you need.

Maybe 6:30AM? I think Southwest is busy in the AM.

Agree! Though no later than 6:30 to get you to the airport by 7:00. Southwest is very busy in the morning and clearing security can take awhile. If you can, print your boarding passes at the hotel the day before. Also, if you have to check luggage, you might add another 15 minutes.

Agreed with all posts above. Traffic on the roads normally starts getting busy by 7, so it would be best for you to shoot for leaving Coronado by 6:30 just to play it safe. Southwest opens their ticket counters later than some of the others (in my experience), so there tends to be a rush to into line so people can check baggage & get through security in time. If you can print your boarding pass ahead of time it can help a lot, likewise if you are just planning to carry your luggage on.

FYI, Lindbergh Field (SAN) has a curfew, so the first flight out is at 6:30 AM, though some airlines posts the departure at 6:15, the plane doesn't leave the tarmac until 6:30.

As for Southwest, it has become an International Airline with agreements with its unions and the purchase of AirTran. So Southwest will be offering flights to Mexico from Lindbergh Field in the near future.

I would prefer the afternoon flight, but by 8'ish AM you shouldn't be too bad.
