Help with Restaurants for a Mom and Kindergartner

Hi, Me and my 5 year-old daughter will be visiting San Diego Feb. 15th - Feb. 19th. We are staying at the Catamaran Resort in Mission Bay and yep - I've got a rental car. Right now I'm planning one day for a trip up to see LEGOLAND, and then a second day at the San Diego Zoo. For our third full day in town I'm just going to see what we are in the mood to do (likely something like Balboa park or the waterfront).

What I could really use some help with are good places to eat that are near our hotel or our outings and that would be fun for my daughter. Nothing super fancy of course seeing that she is 5 - but I don't want to be doing fast food all the time either. I'm open to pretty much anything that would have non-super spicy options (yes I know that doesn't limit it much). I've started looking at Yelp and TripAdvisor restaurant reviews but I'm a bit overwhelmed with the options).

Thanks in advance for your help.

The SD Zoo has a nice restaurant called Alberts.

Balboa Park next door has a lot of different options for eating there.

If you go down to the waterfront there is a new shopping center next to Seaport Village and it has some good restaurants.

I don't really recommend any of the restaurants in Seaport Village, however, the fast food places there right on the water are actually pretty good. They are independent ones and not chains. There's also a historic carousel that your 5 yr old might enjoy

Close to Seaport Village is The Children's Museum, which I think your daughter would love.

And about 1/2 mile from there is one of our favorite casual places to eat, The Old Spaghetti Factory.

1 block from your hotel at the seafront is World Famous which has a wide menu and is a very low key sort of beach diner.

world famous is a popular place...get there an hour before sunset. another option...purchase food (chicken, salad, etc from deli) at the ralph's grocery store which is by your hotel and go have a picnic on pacific beach. for breakfast...look at kono's at the end of garnet...again...eat on the beach. you can take a boat ride from your hotel to their sister hotel...the bahia...it's by belmont park. have fun at the amusement park and eat "fast food". it would be about a 20 minute walk home if you wanted to walk along the boardwalk. there are lots of restaurants around your hotel.

Taking the Bahia Belle from the Catamaran to the Bahia is a good idea and your daughter will probably find it fun. It's over a mile between the two so it will take longer than 20 minutes to walk back - if you decide to walk. It's about a mile and a half.
