Looking for a getaway from San Diego in December

I have been thinking of a 2-3 day getaway for me and my wife in December. We're pretty flexible. My first idea was grand canyon or zion park but I heard that it's going to be super cold and snowy there. Catalina Island is on the table now. Renting an RV is another option then we can travel with other friends. Lake Arrowhead is another option. Looking for somewhere relaxing and not very cold. Ideas are welcome.

To GCNP from San Diego and back will be 18 hours in the car not to mention an RV. I also think renting an RV for such a short time is not recommended. Palm Springs would be my favorite and make a daytrip to Joshua Tree NP. Anza Borrego desert SP comes to mind but not sure how cold the nights are in december.

Nights in the desert can be quite cold but if not rainy then the daytime is lovely!

I agree that the area around Palm Springs would be an easy to reach choice.

Santa Barbara

Ojai

Laguna Beach

Palm Springs

Catalina Island might be fun and different

No RV - too much hassle for just a few days. Lake Arrowhead is cold.

I agree with the PPs who suggested Santa Barbara, Malibu or Ojai. In that order. Those would be my choices for a 3-day get-away.

Grand Canyon could have snow this time of year. We are RV owners and really do not take it out this time of year other than to tailgate at a sporting event or something along that line. It is just too cold (because the air goes under the rig...making much harder to keep warm...tents are warmer this time of year, actually). Anyways...Temecula wine country is close by but nice. There is Palm Desert, Scottsdale/Phoenix areas...it would help if we knew what you enjoyed. I like wine and golf. I am sure you can tell by my suggestions :) Ojai is a big spa-health-wellness area.

If you are looking for a good deal and some nice snow, Yosemite National Park is having some amazing sales on National Park Lodging right now. Be sure to book directly.
