Veggie Friendly Restaurant near SAN

Looking for a veggie friendly, but not totally vegetarian restaurant that we could stop for lunch at after we arrive at SAN. We are heading to Murrieta, and ideally would prefer to stop along the way, however, would consider something in San Diego if it is not too difficult to get to. We are not keen on big city driving, so looking for an "easy drive" if that is even possible around San Diego. Something on the water would be nice, but not sure if that would then meet my requirements of an easy drive. Thanks!

Hi happy!

There really are too many to mention. Every restaurant I have eaten in in the last few years has vegetarian options. There are also many complete vegetarian but since you don't want that it's difficult to give you suggestions.

If you want to eat right away when you leave the airport you can take Harbor Drive to Laurel and turn left. Drive a short distance up the hill to Kettner and you'll be in Little Italy. There are some restaurants on Kettner but the majority are on India. The street is lined with restaurants and all their menus are posted outside. I'm sure the vegetarian will be able to find something to eat.

Unfortunately their website isn't completely up to date but here it is

Sorry for so many posts, but the timeout period to make changes is way too short for me. I keep thinking of more things to ask. I was wondering if there is a park near the water that we could walk to or take a short drive to, if we bought a carry out lunch?

Hi,

Our airport is very close to downtown San Diego and is in fact across the street from San DIego Bay. There is a park that runs along the bayfront.

Depending on the day and time of your arrival parking on the street in Little Italy can be congested.

You might consider driving north on Harbor Drive(along the bay) towards Liberty Station where you could go to Tender Greens for lunch.

You might also consider going across the street from the airport onto Harbor Island with views of San Diego Bay,where you could get salad for the vegetarian and other dishes at places like C Level or Tom Ham's Lighthouse. These are not "veggie " restaurants but they will have salad and side vegetable dishes which a vegetarian could eat.

As far as parking it depends on the time of day and day of the week in Little Italy. But, I've always found a place to park even a couple of blocks away.

Across from the airport is Harbor Island and there is a very long park right along the water facing the bay.

Hi,

Also in Little Italy at Columbia and Cedar Streets is the Queenstown Public House. You can check out their menu here:

http://queenstownpublichouse.com/

To get onto I-5 north from there is very easy. Just take Cedar Street east four blocks to 1st Avenue, turn left, go over the Interstate, and turn left into the entrance ramp:

Also, street parking in downtown/Little Italy is metered parking, so make sure you have plenty of quarters/change available. There are, however, pay parking lots scattered throughout as well.

Here are the complete directions from the Airport:

However, depending on which car rental agency you use, their location may be off airport property and different directions will be needed.

If they do go to Little Italy I suggest they go up Laurel (map I provided) and turn right on Kettner and look for a parking space on Kettner as far as Cedar or Beach because it's less crowded. Also to look on the side streets. If no parking there then turn on Cedar or Beech and drive down (North) on India. For the parking lots

Also their car rental place is probably closer to Laurel - but have no way of knowing that.

I like the food at Queenstown

Thanks everyone, you are awesome!!!! We have decided to head to Little Italy from the airport. We like the convenience to the freeway from there, and there seem to be plenty of restaurants to choose from. Our car rental is with Avis at the airport.

Any idea what the prices are at the Queenstown? I looked at the website menu, but there were no prices.

BTW are flight arrives on a Monday at 11:00 a.m., which will be 2:00 p.m. on our body clock.

Gee, I've eaten there about 3 times but can't remember prices. The first time was at Happy Hour so that's not help. The last was lunch and I had a chicken breast sandwich. I think around $8 - $10 ish.

Here are a couple of others to look at

Davanti has some tempting veggie dishes

As does Prep Kitchen
