Public transport

We are staying in a hotel in gas lamp ( exact hotel to be decided ). Would like to go to the beach using public transport.

Can you please advise us on the best beaches and what transport to use ?

Many thanks.

The closest beach to downtown, and also a great beach is Coronado. You can either take the bus to Coronado or you can take the ferry across the bay. If you take the ferry across the bay you are about a mile and a half from the beach so will either need to jump in a cab, take the bus the rest of the way, walk, or rent a bike to get to the beach.

Pacific Beach is another nearby option. To get there you can take the trolley to Old Town and then catch a bus from there.

Here is our public transit web site:

The 901 bus goes from downtown across the bay to Coronado.

Here is the route map and timetable:

The #30 bus goes from downtown to Pacific Beach(longer ride)

Each beach has its own personality with the one in Coronado being gorgeous near an historic hotel where you can have drinks/meal facing the ocean and a small town atmosphere.

Pacific Beach is more surfer/livelier personality with bars/restaurants along the seafront.

You can also use Google maps to get transit directions.

When you decide on a hotel put it into Google and a map will appear.

Then click on the map and use the Get Directions function to see transit options.
