Where to Stay with Teens? Weather late June?

We are first time visitors to CA. Our trip to San Diego/Los Angeles begins June 21. I am looking for a nice place to stay. We're into the beach, sports, outdoor activities. My boys love to skim board, body surf, etc. I am looking for a place in a great location for my kids to catch a CA vibe, so to speak. My budget is preferably under $250 a night. We'll have a rental car. My nephew is stationed on the Carl Vincent so plan to visit with him as well. I just saw on a post that June is cloudy and gloomy. I hope not! What is the weather usually like towards the end of June? Thanks for any help.

I think your kids would like the Pacific Beach area. Lot's of water sports. There's a boardwalk where people ride bikes, roller blade. There are a lot of restaurants in walking distance. It's a real beachy surfer vibe. You might check out the Catamarran, Capri by the Sea. I know people will come along with more suggestions.

It's also close to Mission Bay Park will a lot of activities there.

We can get June Gloom. It usually burns off and can make being outdoors a little more pleasant. I wouldn't worry too much.

I agree with elizzie that Pacific Beach will be very suitable for a family with teens. Also check out a little further south in Mission Beach.

Yes, we have June Gloom, as well as May Gray, which is mostly fog, and as elizzie says, it usually burns off around 11:00 am. Temperature-wise it will be nice (mid to high 70s), and many people from the hotter inland areas of San Diego come to the beach to escape the heat.

Not sure if LA is a good idea. I was thinking they banned Celtic fans after the 1969 NBA finals......

I agree with Pacific Beach. You could also try the west end of Mission Valley. Close to PB and you might get less coastal clouds.

My experience with June gloom is that it has a traditional end around July 4. With you coming in late in June, you might catch a break.

The whole June gloom thing is really hit and miss. It's no deal-breaker, but something prospective visitors need to be aware of.

We liked Capri by the Sea very much. Condos with full kitchens and full views of Pacific Beach. Underground assigned parking.....free. Walking distance to restaurants, Mission Beach, etc.
