San Diego in December?

Hi,

Looking to visit San Diego for 2-3 days in December while in LA for our honeymoon, what will it be like this time of year?

Does anyone have any suggestions of areas/hotels to stay? i.e. Is PB good that time fo year?

We are mainly going as the other half wants to go to the zoo, any ohter suggestions of activities would be welcome.

Thanks!

Hi,

IF you are asking about the weather("what will it be like") then it is similar to LA.

December will usually have temps in the 60sF during the day and can reach 70F if you are lucky! At night the temps will be lower. It can also be rainy at that time of year but since we don't get much rain(usually) then it shouldn't bother you.

It will be off season for prices at the beach so you may find a good deal!

There are many other things to see/do besides the zoo but it depends on what interests you. There are ships to visit on the bayfront downtown.

The USS Midway is an aircraft carrier and our Maritime Museum has a Russian sub and old sailing vessels to explore.

There's Balboa Park (where the zoo is located) which has small museums/gardens/live theater/artisan shops etc.

www.balboapark.org

You might also consider our La Jolla neighborhood(for hotels as well)

which has the cove with its seals and sea birds in their native environment, upscale boutiques and art galleries/restaurants etc.

There's also Cabrillo National Monument with its 180 deg. views/Ca. history,/old lighthouse.

There are other things to do here too but you can't see them all in such a short visit!!

Depending on the dates you are here there may be boat parades on the bays and the December Nights event in Balboa Park.

Sorry should have been more clear , yes i meant weather but also will there be plenty to do at that tinme of year.

I have breifly seen mention of La Jolla, so you would recomend this area over PB and OB? I have never been to LA or even USA before so have limited knowledge of the areas.

All listed sound interesting, thanks a lot. So hard to plan when we dont know the area and have little time there!

PB is just fine. I mentioned La Jolla as a possibility not that it was "better".

You should definitely visit the cove area there even if you don't stay there.

La Jolla is the neighborhood just north of Pacific Beach. For some reason this web site lists it separately as if it were a different city so to see the hotels there you have to go to the La Jolla section.

PB has a cement walkway in front of the beach that goes for miles where you can walk/bike/skate etc. You might enjoy that.

I don't know your price range for hotels so you'll just have to look around and see what is available for you for your dates.IF you want more specific hotel ideas then give us your dates and price range in $$s.

It will be mild. Can certainly be rainy. Won't be hot.

The ocean will be too cold to swim in.

Just a thought here, but have you considered spending most of your honeymoon in San Diego, and visiting LA for 2-3 days? As a couple who visited both cities in the same trip a few years ago, we find San Diego to be a much nicer city to visit.

We are actually staying with family in Calabasas but wanted for go or own way for a few days, are now thinking between SD and San Fran.

Previous to this we will have been to Mexico and Vegas.
