Lego Land and San Diego Zoo - place to stay in the middle??

We're heading to San Diego for Spring Break with our almost 3 yr. old for 5 days. We want to do Lego Land and the zoo for sure, but since they aren't really close to each other, where is the best place to stay? Balboa Park in general looks like there will be a lot of fun activities as well. We just did Sea World in San Antonio last yr, so we can pass on that attraction. Just need to know if there is a place to stay that is convenient to all.

Thanks,

K

IF you will have a rental car then it won't really matter where you stay.

It is about a 40min. drive from downtown to Legoland.

The zoo is only 2miles from downtown.

I suppose an area like Old Town or La Jolla would be in between.

IF it were my trip I'd just find a hotel that fit my budget , rent a car and go!

Lots of families seem to like the Homewood Suites/Liberty Station with its free parking, free bkfst and some free suppers.

Let us know about the car(yes/no) and your budget , and we can make other suggestions.

Alas, no, LEGOLAND is in Carlsbad, in Northern San Diego County, while the main part of San Diego is about 45 minutes to an hour drive away (depending on traffic).

I would base myself in the main part of San Diego, and take a day trip to LEGOLAND.

I like the Old Town area of San Diego for families. Sounds like you will have a rental car, so Liberty Station is another good choice.

Yes we will have a rental car. Budget is less than $200/night, breakfast included would be nice. Looks like I should look in Old Town and La Jolla. Recommendations of places to stay there?

I like the Fairfield Inn Old Town (formerly the Mission Inn). Will fit your budget, and offers a nice free breakfast.

Check out the "Fuel up your tank" special at the second link in the Specials section. Booking that will give you free parking, and a $25 gas card.

And here are some links that talk about the Old Town area in general.

I would probably stay at the Homewood Suites Liberty Station or Old Town and has been said, just drive to LegoLand the day you want to go. Assuming there are other things you want to see and do in San Diego other than the Zoo.
