Best Restaurants Poll 2005

San Diego Home & Gardens Magazine just published their readers poll on best restaurants for 2005, and I thought you might be interested in some of the results for future trip planning (listed in order 1-2-3, and I have included the locations for you)

Special occasion - Marine Room (La Jolla Shores), Melle Fleures (Rancho Santa Fe), Prado (Balboa Park)

Value - Come On In (La Jolla & Sorrento Valley), Cafe Eleven (Hillcrest), Thyme in the Ranch (Rancho Santa Fe)

View - Bertrand at Mr. A's (downtown/Bankers Hill), Marine Room, George's at the Cove (La Jolla)

Outdoor dining - Prado, Ocean Terrace Bistro (La Jolla above George's), Casa de Bandini (no longer open)

Kids - Corvette Diner (Hillcrest), Chuck E. Cheese, Souplantation (several locations)

Best kept secret - Kensington Grill, Cafe Eleven, Thyme at the Ranch (Rancho Santa Fe)

Romantic - Marine Room, Top o' the Cove (George's La Jolla), Prado

American - Arterra (Marriott Del Mar), Croce's (Gaslamp), Kensington Grill

Chinese - PF Changs (University City), Tie - Jasmine (Kearney Mesa) and Panda Inn (several locations)

Italian - Arreviderci (Hillcrest), Trattoria Acqua (La Jolla), Busalacchi's (Hillcrest)

Greek/Middle Eastern - Bandar (Gaslamp), Athen's Market (Gaslamp), Daphne's (near SDSU)

Mexican - tie for third: Old Town Mexican Cafe & Los Cabos(other two are now gone)

Thai - Taste of Thai (Hillcrest), Kitima Thai (Hillcrest), Rama (Gaslamp)

Other Ethnic - Indigo Grill (Little Italy) only one listed

Steak - Donovans (University City), Ruth's Chris (Carmel Valley & downtown), Flemings ( University city & downtown)

Seafood - Fish Market (downtown & Del Mar), King's Fishhouse (Carlsbad), Star of the Sea & Anthony's Fish Grotto (tie for third, both downtown)

Sushi - Japengo (University city), Ono Sushi (Hillcrest), Zenbu (La Jolla)

Burger - In N Out (various locations, only one listed)

Pizza - Sammy's (various locations incl La Jolla & Gaslamp), Bronx Pizza (Hillcrest), Filippi's (Little Italy)

Breakfast - Hash House (Hillcrest), tie for 2nd - Mission Cafe (Mission Beach/North Park) and the Cottage (La Jolla), Big Kitchen (North Park)

Brunch - Hotel Del Coronado (only one listed due to ties)

Great list! No El Biz at the Rancho Bernardo Inn? We spent our honemoon there. It usually makes one of the categories. Has anyone been there lately? :)

Yes, I went there for brunch! They had the first bloody many station...it was great!
