Accommodation and tour advice needed

We are going to be spending part of our honeymoon (2-3 days) in San Diego at the end of October. We are going to Seaworld, SD zoo, and would like to visit the Gaslamp Quarter as well as take a trip down to Tijuana for a day. Not sure which area we should be staying in as we're totally unfamiliar with SD. Could anybody recommend some accommodation somewhere relatively close nearby under US$150 (we won't be hiring a car) and a good tour to take to Tijuana?

Since you won't have a car, the best area to stay would be in the downtown - Little Italy - Gaslamp District. All near San Diego bay, all within about a 2-mile radius, easy walking distance from any of these areas to the trolley (train), and well served by buses.

You can take the trolley to Tijuana and walk across the border, but I would recommend a tour - here are a couple suggestions:

I also think you would enjoy the Old Town Trolley (bus) tour - which goes several places that you want to, and allows you to hop on and off the bus as you want to explore on your own
