Anyone want to post your opinion? Top 5 and why? I'd love to know where to go while in San Diego/La Jolla.

You're right, it depends on tastes so I should be more specific... I'm looking for a "W" hotel style resturant that is sleep contemporary, good music playing, a nice crowd, something very relaxing...

I'm also looking for a beachfront seafood place that sells "the best ____" you fill in the blanks. A place locals like. Something that may be in a shak with nothing but picnic tables or no table at all, carry out style, near the beach.

Lastly, I'm looking for a great water front resturant where we can eat on the patio overlooking the surf. Nothing overpriced...

For a "W" type of atmosphere try Chive:

For locals only type seafood:

Point Loma Seafood

or

The Fishery in Pacific Beach:

Your description of the seafood place, sounds exactly like Point Loma Seafoods. It's very very good, paper plates and all. Very busy, no frills place.

As for a waterfront restaurant that isn't overly expensive. Try Georges Ocean Terrace bistro.

Georges at the Cove is known as one of the top restaurants in San Diego. The Ocean Terrace Bistro is on the top floor and has the same excellent food in a casual setting, without the high prices. It's a great place. The views are to die for.

Another great place is Hudson Bay Seafood. Right on SD Bay so you can watch the fishing boats go out. There is seating and but definitely not a place you go for ambience. We used to boat over and dock right there. It was a great family excursion. It is right by the airport.

The best Mexican is not sold in a nice restaurant. However, that being said there is a place in Coronado called Miguels. It serves the best japeno cheese sauce! They give you chips and salsa for free but you must request the cheese sauce. My cousin said she wanted ot have us fedex her some in Ohio when she was pregnant she had such a craving. The food itself is fairly good for Mexican but stay simple, don't get their platter (too much money, fill up on salsa and chips and a small a la carte item.) It is located in the El Cordova Hotel courtyard and has great patio seating. If you are in Coronado its worth a stop!

We have so many wonderful restaurants, I try a new one every month, and still haven't tried them all. My favorites - it's not an easy choice:

Fish Market for really fresh seafood and an awesome view right on San Diego Bay

http://www.thefishmarket.com/

Flemings Steakhouse - La Jolla Aventine - best steaks

…hyatt.com/property/…

Prado Restaurant - Balboa Park - for the great atmosphere, wonderful location and great food - get a table on the outside patio

Vigilucci's in Encinitas - great Italian food in a neighborhood restaurant setting right on Highway 101 - great service, awesome food

Bertrand's at Mr. A's - the VIEW
