Christmas in Boston

We're coming to Boston this Christmas from England. Do you celebrate with a meal on the 24th or 25th and can anyone recommend a restaurant?

You find a mix here, although Christmas Day traditionally is the big family day. It's one of the few days that most everything is closed and most stores close early on Christmas Eve (like at 6 PM). However, most of the major hotels will have an open restaurant and the Boston Globe newspaper on the Thursday prior usually lists those restaurants throughout the city that are open and whether they offer their regular or special menues for the day. Chinatown offers a haven for those that might seek out people and open restaurants.

Yes, you'll find a lot of activity on Christmas Eve---people tend to visit families and split up Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, covering bases, seeing all the relatives and going to Church. Midnight Mass is a big deal for Catholics, and all denominations will have Christmas morning services.

You'll find more restaurants open Christmas Eve than on Christmas Day. Chinatown is a good bet for finding open restaurants on days like this.
