Boston in May.

Anniversary trip coming up and Boston is the destination. Where is the best area to stay? We want to explore the beauty of the city and the night life, we aren't too old yet :) We will not have a vehicle so walking is our preferred mode of transportation but will utilize public transportation as needed. Fenway is obviously on the agenda! Your suggestions are appreciated.

Back Bay/ Copley areas are popular and convenient but Boston is a lot smaller than most people think so it's very walkable or a quick taxi/subway ride between any points. May is graduation season so you should check out prices now and if out of your range maybe check out some of the bidding sites, lastminutetravel, etc. If you see a specific hotel post back here and you'll get good feedback, or tell us your specific dates and max budget per night and I'm sure you'll get plenty of suggestions.

First couple of weeks in May is Boston's other drop-dead gorgeous time: Blossoms. You just don't hear about us because DC gets so many props. It's still pretty good for availability, if not price, and if no big conventions. But after the first week, we're into one of Boston's three extremely high seasons (fall foliage, graduation, Patriot's Day/marathon weekend). ...Just meant to be words to the wise.

Boston Common, Beacon Hill and Quincy Market area are also good places to look. Please do not confuse Quincy Market with Quincy. The first is a tourist attraction in the heart of the Boston. The other is a city 10 miles away.

I think Firewind meant that after the first week we are past the big seasons. The final graduation is on June 6th and the last big convention for the season is on June 8 th. That one is out in the Seaport District which is not an area that should impact you if you are here to see Boston as a tourist.

Penny I think she meant that the first week in may is ok and after that we are heavy into graduation season? You are right about June.

You are right. I was up too early and thinking June despite the headline.
