Ideas for evening

Coming in late June with wife and two kids (12 & 14). Going to go to Red Sox game one night. Other than dinner, not sure what to do other nights. Would like to fo to symphony but I didn't see any performances in late June. Other ideas? Thanks in advance.

Do you have specific dates you could share? Around that time of year there are some free performances around town as well as shows at the Bank of America Pavillion. There is always Blue Man group which kids your age would enjoy.

Late June is a tough time, I think. The BSO has concluded its season and the short Pops season is also over. New England Conservatory (with Jordan Hall, another great venue), Boston Conservatory, and Boston University have concerts, but probably not in late June.

It's nothing like the symphony, but Blue Man Group is enjoyable for most ages. BSO season is over by June. Take a look here for some other ideas:

Spend an evening in vibrant Harvard Square. Eat at one of the many restaurants, amble about, and enjoy the street performers.

Some of the better things in Boston are free. A walk down commonwealth ave, Aka the commonwealth mall. Hanging on Newbury or Charles street. The harbor walk or the north end.

The specific dates are June 27-June 30. We were disappointed that BSO or Pops is not performing. It doesn't have to be an orchestra for night entertainment, just figured most of the historic attractions shut down by 6:00.

There are some walking tours you can take at night. Some have a ghost and graveyard theme.

I got curious about this, so I tried to look on bostix.com (same as www.artsboston.org). Maybe I am inept, but it seems to only show listings that are coming up within the next few weeks. This may be due to the arts organizations not always sending things in very early.

Bottom line, though, there WILL be music events while you are here, including classical music. You might also look at the Boston Globe online (Sunday arts section, or weekdays look in the "G" section which includes daily arts listings). We have all sorts of classical music organizations. You can also search by venue, e.g. Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall (New England Conservatory) are just the most prominent but there are others. Handel & Haydn, Cantata Singers, etc.

Institute of contemporary art has free admission after 5 on Thursdays . They often have free music by the water which is a delightful way to spend a summers eve. From there stroll over to the boston harbor hotel for more free music.
