Staying cool this weekend

My husband and I are coming to Boston for a romantic kids-free weekend, and are looking for strategies to stay cool in the 94 degree heat. I've thought of the movies, but we could do that anywhere. Other suggestions?

Check out the new American Wing at the Museum of Fine Arts and see the Chihuly exhibit, and take a harbor cruise--wear a hat and sunscreen.

The MFA may be crowded because others will have the same idea.

I'm sure others will have additional suggestions.

Instead of planning regular meals, you could do a bar/cafe/restaurant crawl. Just pop into a place for a drink/snack when you start to get overheated.

I second getting out on the water. One of my favorite random cheap dates is taking the MBTA ferry from Long Wharf to Fore River in Quincy, especially around sunset. You don't even have to get off the boat, it docks to let passengers off and departs back for Boston about ten minutes later. For $12 round trip you get a nice boat ride, ocean breezes, a nice view of the city on the way back and they even have a bar on board.

When it gets hot, I think on the water or by the water is the place to be! Always at least a little bit cooler.

The ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art) is located on the waterfront in a wonderful new building. There are lots of cool, new place to eat and hang out down in that area too, including Sam's restaurant in the high-end store Louis right next door to the ICA, and the brand new Liberty Wharf that has several new restaurants in it. There are also some other great restaurants like Menton, Papagayo, Strega & Drink (kind of a speakeasy-type bar. You'd have to get there early though.) You could also go to the New England Aquarium (it won't exactly be "kids-free" but it will be cool!) Take a sail on the Liberty Clipper at sunset (though I'd call about that today if you're interested. Lovely boat.) There are also cool, romantic, happenings nearly every night on the waterfront behind the Boston Harbor Hotel in the Summer including live bands and dancing and movies by moonlight on Fridays. Check out the schedule below.

Stay close to the water and off Newbury Street. The area around the ICA is really nice, so good idea by Boston2dc.

The Rose Kennedy Greenway has at least one cooling station.

I think boston2dc gave great advice...wow is it hot in Boston...I am on my way out of the city...and it is already hot and humid...staying near the water is the place to be...I don't think I would advise alcohol consumption in this heat...stick with lemonade.or smoothies

Fox 25 is reporting live at the moment from the fountains on the rose Kennedy greenway. Temperature there is 94 but over near the seaport hotel is 90. Head to the seaport area for a liitle relief.

Side note: fox 25 reported there will be lots of events going on tomorrow to celebrate Rose Kennedy's birthday.

When I researched sunscreens prior to going to Africa, I was shocked to find out that many of the hyped brands were dangerous to your heath.
