First visit to Boston

Visiting Boston for the first time on 24/11/05, trying to work out the best area to stay in. The hotels I have looked at are Jurys, Wyndham, Harbour, Omni Parker and Nine Zero, but can't work out which would be the nicest hotel, and which hotels are in the best position to see the sites.

Hello Iangordon,

First it's important that you know that out of the 5 Hotels you listed. Jury's Hotel is in the Back Bay at 350 Stuart St. near Berkely St. it's within walking distance to the Public Garden, Copley Place, The Pru Shops, Newbury St. and Boylston St. It's a 4 Star Hotel.

The Boston Harbor Hotel is a 4 Star Hotel that's within right on Boston Harbor and within walking distance to Quincy Market and the North End for dinner and Downtown Crossing.

The Wyndham Hotel in Boston is a 4 Star Hotel right at 89 Broad St., the quality and size of the rooms are nice. Location of this Hotel is very central. It's in a 1928 renovated building in the Financial District within walking distance to the Quincy Market and Downtown Crossing. It's nothing amazing to look at but a lot of people really like the location. It's up to you!

A lot of people online here really like the Omni/Parker House, which was given 3 1/2 stars, it's on Tremont St. in the historical section of downtown Boston, you can very easily walk down to the Quincy Market from here and the Theater District is within a few blocks, as well as Beacon Hill and the North End. It's been recently renovated and it's on the National Registar of Historical Places in Boston.

Nine Zero is a few doors up from the Omni/Parker House and it's a lot newer, very modern and extremely hip these days to stay at. A lot of business people like it here due to it's proximity to the Financial District as well as Spire Restaurant that's located in this elaborate Hotel. This is a 4 Star Hotel as well. It's very easy to walk from here to the Quincy Market, the North End for dinner or to stroll along Beacon Hill.

You'd have to decide which end of Boston you want to be in. Where do you think you'd really like to be? Either near the Quincy Market area and the North End/Beacon Hill OR do you want to be up by the Back Bay where Copley Place and Newbury St. is. Either way you can always check out the GO BOSTON cards www.gobostoncard.com and do a city tour on the beantown trolley, it would give you a good grasp of your surroundings by taking this tour as soon as you can!

Have fun and no matter where you stay? You're going to have a wonderful time visiting Boston! You're going to be very busy, there's a lot to see and do here!

In addition to the previously mentioned excellent choices, for purposes of comparison and price, you should peruse these very recent reviews for the Fairmont Copley Plaza, The Four Seasons and The Boston Yacht Haven all upscale 4 or 5 star hotels.

One last comment. The Yacht Haven is a unique, beautiful and relatively new hotel. It is relatively near the Quincy Market Faneuil Hall area. However, it will be in late November when you arrive and you will be adjacent to the harbor. The climate will be cold and damp but tolerable to us natives.
