Stay near TD Garden

Hi! We are planning on a short weekend stay for the USA Gymnastics Championship meet in mid August at TD Garden. We know NOTHING about Boston. We will be flying in Friday afternoon and leaving Sunday afternoon - not renting a car. Where is a good location to stay and not be too far from TD Garden but also in a good area that has a Boston “feel” to it. Our kids are 10 and 8 - we like upbeat places/outdoor dining etc. Just trying to get a start on research. Thanks!

Very close to TD Garden is The Onyx, Marriott Courtyard, Holiday Inn, The Boxer and Wyndham. All are walking distance to the Garden and walking distance to restaurants, the North End (our Italian area) and Faneuil Hall/ Quincy Market.

Fair warning, Boston hotels are expensive. Visitors are often shocked to be spending more on hotels here than NYC for example. We have high demand and low supply much of the year. Assume anything under $300/night is a bargain.

There are several hotels between the TD Garden and Faneuil Hall that would fill that bill, from the Boxer to the Millennium, Ames, Harborside Inn and Marriott Custom House or Long Wharf.

Suzabanana's list is a good one. The Holiday Inn is a Holiday Inn Express, you want the one on Friend St.. There are a couple of others that are not near the Garden. There are also two or there Marriott Courtyards in town. You want the Marriott Courtyard North Station on Beverly St. which is brand new, so might be a good choice. There are a bunch of sports bar/pub type places right near the Garden. I would not worry too much about type of restaurants are in direct proximity to your hotel as Boston is compact and it is easy to get around by foot and subway, so go out and explore. The immediate area around the TD Garden is fine, but it is not the most scenic. Go to the Back Bay, Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market, the Waterfront, Beacon Hill, etc. to get the "Boston feel". You will be close to the North End (quaint Italian neighborhood). Have at least one dinner there.

"upbeat places/outdoor dining"

For that and near the Garden I'd say Faneuil Hall is your best bet.

Specifically the Bostonian. It's right across the street from Quincy Market area and very close to the North End which are both lively and either a 10ish min. walk or one stop on the Subway from Haymarket to the Garden.
