A good wine store in San Fran

Looking to pick up a few bottles of wine since I won't have a chance to visit Nappa this trip. Anyone know of a good wine store/liquor store with someone who really knows about wines?

Do you have Trader Joe's in Michigan? If not, you would enjoy checking out their wine selection....primarily for the great values. The knowledgability of the staff would vary significantly though....

There is an excellent wine store and wine bar in the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero (not to mention a couple great restaurants nearby). It has a wide selection of both local wines as well as imports.

There's a pretty good one -- can't remember the name, though -- on Taylor near O'Farrell, and another one on the corner of Geary and Mason, as I recall.

I agree with tonymoco! Check out Trader Joes, a small but popular chain grocery store. They have a great selection at a fraction of what the wine bars will charge.

But still check out some wine bars for the hard to find, super rare wineries and vintages. And Napa is only about a 90 minute drive north, an easy half day adventure!

Plumpjack is really nice. It's on Fillmore and Greenwich.

The Wine Merchant is a great place in the Ferry Building. You can purchase some cheese and bread or chocolates at other stores in the building or you can purchase some snacks from them. They serve "flights" of wine (small tastings of a few different wines). The know alot about wines and are not snotty about it!

Try Vinovenue on 686 Mission Street.

Great place to taste different wine and to hang out if you have no time to drive up to Napa.
