San Fran, Monterey and Yosemite in October

Hi there

We are looking at being in the SF area between the dates of Oct 31 to Nov 6. We will be flying in from Las Vegas in the morning of Oct 31 and then flying too New York on the last flight out of SF on Nov 6. So we pretty much has 7 full days in the area. We are looking at spending 4 nights in SF, 2 nights in Yosemite and 1 night in Monterey. I just had a question about which way would be best.

Option 1

10/31 - Fly in from LV, drive to Yosemite

11/1 - Yosemite

11/2 - Yosemite - Monterey

11/3 - Monterey - SF

11/4 - SF

11/5 - SF

11/6 - SF, fly out to new york in evening

Option 2

10/31 - Fly in from LV, SF

11/1 - SF

11/2 - SF

11/3 - Monterey, Point Lobos, Big Sur

11/4 - Monterey - Yosemite

11/5 - Yosemite

11/6 - Yosemite - Fly out to New York in Evening

Another option will be to fly to SF and drive to Monterey that day. Will be a shorter drive than to Yosemite. Check lodging in Yosemite first and plan accordingly.

1. SF-Monterey

2. Monterey

3. Monterey-Yosemite

4. Yosemote

5. To SF

6. SF

7. SF

If you want to explore BigSur, Point Lobos etc I'd stay Monterey for 2 nights after driving directly from SF.

That sounds like it could work. Could you potentially fly into San Jose instead of SF as a way to save on time? Gives you a bit more time to explore monterey and areas?

Hi Rob B

You'll find this classic loop described on the California forum page. (This page is all about San Francisco.)

Flying in to San Jose means the rental car might not be as cheap; you'll want to drop it when you arrive in SF.

Halloween in San Francisco would probably have the greatest opportunity for adult fun. I doubt there will be any festivities in Yosemite.

Sounds like fun! Also if you're looking into unique sightseeing, napa valley and their famous wineries are very enjoyable. I'd take one night from SF to go there.

We are thinking of potentially dropping Monterey as it feels like we will be just too rushed around the place( see other posts as we are also going la and lv) can you advise of any good Halloween festivites that happen in the city. Ultimately we would like to be in sf before we fly out to new York (saves having to travel longer distance to airport on the day we leave) but Halloween in the city does sound mighty tempting!! We were originally going to do it in new York, but flagged it due to costs
