Queen Elizabeth?

I have a friend who says she thinks the Queen Elizabeth is a floating hotel in San Francisco? Does anyone know if this is true?

Right now we have over flowing hotels with Oracle World in town, but I've never seen any floating hotels except for the occassional cruise ship visit.

The original Queen Elizabeth is at the bottom of Hong Kong Harbor, the QE2 was sold as a hotel to Dubai for the Palm Jumeirah.

Wikipedia says - "Queen Mary was retired from service in November 1968"

Nope, 1967. My grandmother was on the final voyage ;-)

AbbieC, I think your friend was thinking of the Queen Mary Hotel in Long Beach (near Los Angeles).

Yes I think she was. As suggested I looked that up and I am now sure thats what she meant. I am not sure it is a very good place to stay though as the location seems a bit away from the touristy bits of LA.

Thanks everyone for your help with this. Back to planning....... and googling!

The Queen Mary in Long Beach is a great place to stay for a couple of nights to explore the Long Beach area, but I wouldn't base my whole LA stay in the area.

Los Angeles is separated by some 380 miles (810 kM) from San Francisco. Why don't you try the Los Angeles forum for such input?
