The city is not overburdended. The Park, especially the west end, is hoppinng and it can be hard to find parking (which you probably won't need anyway). However, last year I lucked into a spot fairly close by. However, the east section of the Park ... where the Academy of Sciences and deYoung musuem are ... did not seem any more busy than usual.

SF won't be too burdened with the influx of visitors, as Outside Lands pulls a good deal of its audience from Bay Area locals and friends of Bay Area locals. The usually quiet west side of Golden Gate Park will be a lot busier, but things will be mostly normal elsewhere.

I went to Outside Lands two years ago and found an excellent parking spot, but you probably won't have that kind of luck. I'd stick with the Muni bus and rail service. If you experience any issues on your visit, I would expect them to be related to Muni service and its inability to adequately handle the extra passengers. However, Muni claims it has worked out most of the kinks, so in another year's time it should be okay. Well, as okay as Muni can be considering how unreliable the service is.

definitely consider booking in advance a place to stay in the the area of the park or at that end of the city such as the Red Victorian Bed & Breakfast http://www.redvic.com/, Stanyan Park Hotel www.stanyanpark.com or Laurel Inn …trvlclick.com/hotels/sanfrancisco/laurel_inn in Pacific Heights and even Seal Rock Inn http://www.sealrockinn.com/

The transit from downtown is very crowded and I wouldn't put my faith in MUNI to have enough buses and trains to accommodate the crowds. It is still a bit of a walk from those locations but, if at the end of the night's show there's too large of a crowd to board a bus, one can walk to those hotels. I also recommend getting a head start by lining up before the gate opening time so you can get more up front and not fight for blanket space.

Thanks to everybodys insight. I don' think I can make it this year. I most likley try next year. Basically I want everything set up a month or two in advance.

Are there anymore festivals other than Outlands that I would be interested. I like a lot of Classic Rock and new stuff like Cake/Beck/Jet.

There are three other music festivals that come to mind in the SF area:

Treasure Island - Occurs over two full days in mid-October. Focused on electronic and indie music. - http://www.treasureislandfestival.com

Bridge School Benefit - Occurs over two afternoons/evenings in late October. Organized for charity by Neil Young. Eclectic acts that you may appreciate. - www.bridgeschool.org/events/concert.php

BFD - Occurs over one full day in early June. Hosted by a local rock station. Probably something you'd like. - http://live105.radio.com/bfd
