Restaurants in San Francisco

We'll be in S.F. for a couple of days in August. Any recommendations for a good Chinese restaurant--preferably in Chinatown--and a seafood restaurant?

Check out www.sfsurvey.com and see what others recommend for a good restaurant. Good Chinese restaurants can also be found on the west side of San Francisco, in the Richmond and Sunset Districts.

My favorite Chinese restaurant is Tai Chi at 2031 Polk Street (at Pacific). This is not in Chinatown, but most of the best Chinese restaurants are there either.

What type of a seafood restaurant? High end? Inexpensive?

High end but not stuffy--we value well-prepared really fresh fish. Thanks for the word on the Chinese restaurant.

Two of the best high-end (but expensive):

Aqua at 252 California St. (Financial District) 415.956.9662

Farallon at 450 Post St. (Union Square) 415.956.6969

Two great moderately priced:

Pesce at 2227 Polk St. (Russian Hill)415.928.8025

Yabbies Coastal Kitchen at 2237 Polk St. 415.474.4088

Finally, great long standing casual:

Swan Oyster Depot at 1517 Polk St. 415.673.1101

I have been to all of these.

Seafood in Chinatown? Try R&G Lounge on Kearny Street near Commercial St. Downstairs is linoleum and loud talk. Upstairs is refined and tastefully decorated. I just booked and had a banquet for 70 there and the crab and lobster were fabulous. Fish should be good, too.
