Two and a half days in San Fransisco

We will be in San Fransisco from 6th to 9th September flying from New York after a three day city break on route to Las Vegas which because of flights amounts to 2.5 days. Would like to do as much as possible in the short time we have. We would like to do a boat trip seeing the Goldengate Bridge and Alcatraz, do these have to be separate or is there a combined trip? Are the Cable Cars like the Hop-on-Hop-off Buses you get in most major Cities. i.e pay a price for one-two days and go on and off when you please or are they the means for getting around the city as in normal bus routes in other cities. We are staying at the Argonaught, Fishermans Wharf and have been told the queue's for the Cable Cars can be long and very time consuming. Is there a tour we could do to see the best of San Fransisco.

Also what is the weather likely to be like begging of September?

Thanking you in anticipation of any replies

1. Re: Two and a half days in San Fransisco

By September you might get some warm days in San Francisco (or it could continue and be somewhat foggy overcast). September and October are usually nice weather in San Francisco but given our unusual rainy and late spring this year in the area this year, it could be one or the other.

Still perfectly fun weather to come and enjoy San Francisco...do bring a coat.

Staying at the Argonaut should be good...and since its past some of the peak tourist season....(schools are back) in easier to get about. In regards to the cable car, the cable car route is directly outside the door of the Argonaut Hotel. The line can be time consuming....but you'll get to be a good gauge while you are here. It gets most crowded at night when people are returning from Fisherman Wharf to Union Square area....

Here's more on the cable cars and you can buy a 3 day pass for the days you are here and do on/off

http://www.sfcablecar.com/

In regards to Alcatraz Tour its through Blue and Gold...only tour service that stops at the Island

http://www.blueandgoldfleet.com/alcatraz

and they do do a combo package if you want to stop at Angel Island as well. In regards to getting on the water, its sufficient just to do Alcatraz Tour to see San Francisco.

I'd suggest looking to see if you're interested in purchasing the Go Card

http://www.gosanfranciscocard.com/

as that will include a bay cruise also under the Golden Gate as well as admission to many places in San Francisco and beyond...

for example, it also includes a Trolley Hop Tour which is similar to the other cities you've been to.

http://www.graylinesanfrancisco.com/

It goes from 10-4 each day and one of the pick up spots is

Fisherman's Wharf area (very close to your hotel.).

You could get on it the first day and ride the whole route and then use it to decide what else you'd like to do while there.

Have fun planning..

Thanks Mini

Everything you have said sounds like what I want to do. Will get on the case (English Term) tomorrow as in England it is looking very close to bed time. Will let you know how I get on.
