Driving Seattle to San Francisco

Myself and my good friend are driving to San Francisco from Seattle in early November. I've heard that the trip will take 12-14 hours. We hope to drive it all in one day on the way there and then maybe stay overnight somewhere on the way back. Any tips on good pit stops? Places to stay overnight? Also, advice/recommendations for driving over the Siskyous in November?

Thanks!

1. Re: Driving Seattle to San Francisco

We have made that trip countless times (we used to live N of Seattle). Early November should still be ok as far as weather, but do make sure that you have chains with you just in case. The timing you heard is right. So much does depend on how often you stop. As far as places to stay on your way back, you may want to consider driving up the coast (at least part way) and finding a place there for the night. That time of year you would not have to worry about reservations.
