Best places to photograph the Golden Gate Bridge

Where are the best places to photograph the Golden Gate Bridge, and are they accessible by public transport?

Thanks in advance!

Another good place is to take a Blue and Gold or Red and White Cruise under the Golden Gate Bridge.....they have hourly cruises during the day from Fisherman's Wharf...

My favorite: The view from Baker Beach on the SW side of the bridge. You'll have to climb down the bluff from Lincoln Blvd in the Park Presidio. Photographer's rule #1. Fill the frame. This may be the most colorful angle from below. And it's right on top of you, so fog effects will be minimized. Public transport will get you fairly close to this (within 1 km most certainly).

Bono & Flea fans,

For an upclose, in your face & wide angle lens shot (Fish lens to a 28mm)... it's photographed looking upwardly from the Fort Point Wharf or Fort Point Historical Site along Marine Drive.

From a distance using a zoom lens (300mm to 500 mm)... it's photgraphed from Treasure Island, with Alcatraz in the foreground of the Golden Gate Bridge with sunset in the background. Optional fog rolling in during the summer time...

(Or shoot it from Alcatraz with no obstructions in the way.)

Or photographed from the opposite direction looking inward from the Pacific Ocean while at the Point Bonita Lighthouse in the Golden Gate National Recreational Area. Optional sunset & fog coming in out of the west...

hope this helps...

theres great views all over the place. there is a beach just next to the palace of fine arts. i thought the view was great there. but also right from the end of the bridge is great too. there is a bus that goes there.

Another spot is the Palace of the Legion of Honor, which is an art museum. Every part of the City of San Francisco is accessible by public transportation!

At the bridge itself. There are viewing areas at both ends of the bridge.

San Francisco: Take bus #28 (Fort Mason-Daly City on Route 1 via 19th St. / Park Presidio Blvd. / Golden Gate Bridge / Fort Mason) or bus #29 (Candlestick Park to the Presidio via Sunset Blvd. / Park Presidio Blvd. / 25th Ave. / Lincoln Blvd. / Golden Gate Bridge). There is a visitors center and you can walk under the bridge onto the coastal path which heads south toward Baker Beach.

Marin County: Take bus #76 - runs only on Sunday (Caltrain Station on 4th St. / Union Square area at Sutter St. to Route 101 via Van Ness Ave., Lombard St. through the Presidio over Golden Gate Bridge to Marin Headlands). Or, take bus #28 or #29 and get off at Golden Gate Bridge and then walk across - 1 mile - to other side.

A few weeks ago I got a great photo of the sun setting over the Marin Headlands and GG Bridge from the Carnelian Room (Bar and restaurant) at the top of the Bank of America Building
