1. Re: SF advise?

What to do: a cruise on the bay.

A trip to Alcatraz could take care of that.

What to do: walking tour & cross the Golden Gate Bridge on foot.

For Roof Top Pools (and a reasonable hotel rate...at least per San Francisco Standards): recommend

Holiday Inn Downtown and Spa San Francisco

750 Kearney Street

San Francisco, CA 94108

1-415-433-6600

It has a great roof top pool (Open in summer months) with a great view of the city.

You can walk from the hotel to Chinatown, Italian District, a great steak place is right next to the hotel....

If you want more elegant place (with the price)

Fairmont Hotel San Francisco is very nice place to stay

but not as nice as roof top pool). Fairmont is a great hotel with beautiful lobby, bar areas. Top of the Mark Bar is directly across the street.

Top 10:

1) Spend a day at Golden Gate Park

2) Go see Beach Blanket Babylon

3) Go shopping down town.

4) Modern Art Museum (if you like Modern Art)

http://www.sfmoma.org/

5) Harbor Cruise - Red White Fleet (one hour)

Will take you under Golden Gate Bridge (there are other companies that do this too and all are fine)

6) Go to a baseball game - SBC Park.

Recommend VIEW section for lovely view of BAY and also of the baseball game. Will be fun for all. (Standing room is ok if you can't get tickets just to walk through the park.)

7) Alcatraz Tour (Blue and Gold Tour)

8) Metreon - if interested in movies/Sony store/etc.

9) Cable Car Tour and Cable Car Barn

10) Hot fudge (or your favorite ice cream) at Gheridelli Square

Now I could add 5 or 6 others easily....but this Must Do (or even in you do a portion) will give you a great idea of San Francisco. (ps: You'll pick up 2 of the others....Chinatown and Italian area if you choose to stay at the Holiday Inn mentioned above.)

Phil,

For lively nightlife, stroll along Columbus Ave. in North Beach. That's my favorite area to go bar hopping. Be sure to check out Vesuvio. Also, there's a good Irish pub on Green St. just off Columbus.
