Stand-up Paddle Boarding - Hire or Lessons

I am looking for a shop to hire a stand up paddle board, or even better ... to give lessons.

I have done all of the searches and read the forum posts. The shops that deal with paddling dont seem to hire stand-up paddle boards, or offer lessons. If you dont know what stand up paddle boarding is, well it is quite a new sport where you get something similar to a surf board and then stand up on it and paddle around with a long oar. You might have seen some people paddling like this around the area.

Any ideas on a shop or a business that can offer this.

Thanks vedry much for your help

I'm not aware of anyone here that offers that and I haven't really seen anyone doing it around here. The water is awfully cold so sports where people actually go into the water are rare around here (unless it's on a lake or pond).

I would contact National Park Kayak and ask them if they know of anyone.

The only place I know of is in the Portland area, but if you make it down to this neck of the woods in your trip you could give them a call - they offer both rentals and lessons and we've got some good beaches in the area (though it's getting chilly!)

In Boothbay Harbor there is a rental outfit that rents and provides instruction on the standup paddleboards. The inner harbor at Boothbay is a fairly calm area to learn on.

The shop is "Tidal Transit" ..can google it for contacts and information.

I am sure they are closed for the season now but probably open from May to first week in October.

WE have rented kayaks here many times and they are very knowledgeable and friendly

AcadiaSUP is giving lessons and offering rentals this year. It is run by Chris Strout who sometimes works for me as a guide. Chris knows his stuff, has invested in quality equipment for his new business, and you will ave a great time with him.
