Ulalena show?

We are planning to see this show in lahaina and are wondering how good this would be and what tickets to get online. We have read about it and like to know if anyone has seen it and what would be your comment. Thx

Ulalena is okay, but really just okay. The last few numbers are very good indeed, but I thought a lot of the show was not that great. The one show to see on Maui is Warren & Annebelles (but get your tickets EARLY).

I really enjoyed `Ulalena, but I do wonder how much of the show visitors would really get. The show delas with a lot of Hawaiian legend and myth, and unless you are familiar with the stories of Pele and Hina, or the significance of kalo, for example, I wonder how much you would get out of it. I went a few weeks ago with friends from the mainland and while they enjoyed the show itself, they were completely lost on any of the stories.

That said, if you enjoy Cirque du Soleil type performances, you will really enjoy this one. They do work the audience into the performance, including creating an underwater oceanscape out of the entire theatre. I can't desribe it--you have to see it! And the performances are wonderful, especially the musicians. Doug Floyd, the percussionist in the "cage" must be seen to be believed.

I will take visitors to see this again, but I will also explain some things to them BEFORE the show. That way it will more than just a dance/acrobatic performance, but will hold some cultural meaning to them as well.

I concur completely. Go see Warren and Annabelle instead. Although it's been some years since I saw Ulalena, the percussionist is the only thing that stands out in my mind about the show.

We went to Ulalena last year; I thought is was fantastic, but the Wife gave it a C- (the opposite of expectations). We paid extra for upgraded seats and, unlike Luau's, didn't think worth the extra cost.

Kaiwahine & others, www.ulalena.com does a good job of explaining the meanings of what's going on in the production. Might be something for visitors to read before actually seeing the show.
