Best Luau on Kauai?

This will be my second trip to Kauai (May 2005) and the first time, I went to Smith's Luau and it was fine. This time, I'll be staying up near Princeville and was wondering which is the best luau to go to and what did you like about it?

Personally, I would skip the luau... you've already done one and I've heard that they are all pretty much the same. I also did the Smith luau this past summer -- it was nice, but reminded me of Disney.

We are heading to Kauai in January for the first time. We are looking for a great luau for parents and kids. Where is the Smith Luau located? I heard that the luau at the Princeville Resort was on the beach and quite good. Should we book now or can we wait until we get there?

momwith3 I would book you luau asap. Also arrive early to avoid crowded lines and seating.

Smiths is the best on this island. Skip the food part and ask for tickets to the show only. You will save money and get the best value.

I would go to the luau at the Coconut Coast Hotel in Kapaa for an authentic Hawaiian luau. The Princeville Resort has a luau in a splendid location with a "Hollywood" style Hawaii revue, meaning big production with lots of dancers. The luau is held on the edge of the infinity pool at the Princeville Hotel on the ground floor. Another option is Sunday brunch at the Princeville with outdoor seating. No luau, but great food and stunning views. Enjoy.

The Princeville Hotel offers a luau. We were there two years ago and it cost $60 per person. It had all the usual luau stuff - Hawaiian food and dancing. It was nice but once you've been to this type of (professionally done) luau they tend to be very much alike. I'd recommend getting a picnic dinner and watching the sunset at Hanalei, Ke'e or Haena beaches instead.

Hi:

We just got back from 10 days in Princeville and had a great time. Since you have already done a luau you should decide what you liked best about it and talk to a local Hawaiian for advice. That is what we did. We especially wanted to enjoy the music and dancing and were advised that the Luau at the Radisson had the best dancers. The radisson is in Lihue not far from the airport. The show was great! They only have it two nights a week (Sunday and Thursday I believe) so book early. Our only disappointment was with the weather. It was one of two days that we got rain and so it was moved indoor to the ballroom. We had to watch the fire dancers through the window as they performed in the parking lot in the rain. Still, we enjoyed ourselves and can only imagine how much better it would have been if the weather had been more accomodating.

The January 2, 2005 response mentions Smith's but only buy the show ticket. I have not been so cannot comment on the show but I emailed Smith's and they said yes, you can buy just the "pageant" ticket for only $15.00.

if Hula is one of the main features of a Lu'au besides the

food and some Hawaiian History, it seems to me that

that griping about it being to Hollywood (maybe) but I cant

help think that some of you all really dont like Hula.

King David Kalakaua said "Hula is the Language of

the Heart, and therefore

the Heartbeat of hawaiian people."

If food not go eat a local place on Kaua'i
