rental cars

I just rented a car through Hawaii discount rentals. I got a car for 200.00 a week through thrifty. Has anyone rented from thrifty recently? I have read some older post about bad experiences, just curious.

Thrifty is fine. We had rentals with them (booked by DHCR too) in Aug-Sept at HNL & LIH. Absolutely no problems. Thrifty office/lot is located about 5 minutes away from the airport with a free shuttle. This eliminates the extra $4.50 per day & 11.11% airport fees.

Do check the car throughly for dings, dents, etc. There is no place on the contract to notate any existing damage. Hubby got an attendant to write down the damage and had her sign/date it just to be safe. You might take photos of any damage too if you can (we had a white car, bright sunlight, hard to see the damage in a photo).

They are fine. I rented through them my last two times. All cars on the island aren't cleaned to my specs. If you aren't happy with a car (too many dings, dirty etc) ask for another or ask them to run it through the wash again. I found the staff nice.
