Castle Kiahuna Plantation or Castle Makahuena?

Opinions? Pros/cons?

Only one night stay - plan to have dinner out and get the Poipu vibe and then head out the next AM to hike Waimea canyon.

Mostly concerned with comfortable beds and good night sleep vs. pool, fitness center, etc.

Thank you!

Without a doubt, Kiahuna Plantation. You'll be right there by most of the restaurants and you'll get that Poipu vibe for sure. Only problem is you might not want to leave after just one night

Kiahuna would also be my choice for a nice beach. Makahuena is on a bluff with fabulous oceanviews. Only one night? Are you moving to another location on Kauai?

One night?

Why would you want a condo where you pay cleaning etc? Stay at the Sheraton or another hotel like The Grand Hyatt, Koa Kea similar.

Question!!! What is a Poipu "vibe"?

Here are responses to all misc quesitons/comments:

1) Don't pay for cleaning - it's billed like a hotel and is $166/night for 2BR unit.

2) Don't know what the Poipu 'vibe' is...hope to find out - I'm sure it's great!

3) Yes - we move to Hanalei for the rest of our vaction.

4) Sounds like the Kiahuna is the place!

Thx everyone.

Then that's a good rate. Go with KP and have dinner at Plantation Garden for the full effect!

What is the Poipu "vibe" ?

Every place has a vibe, some good, some not so good., some more interesting than others, some busy, some slow. The word "vibe" doesn't connote any qualifities necessarily. The OP might find they don't like the vibe of Poipu even.

Aloha from Kaua'i!

I'd also say Kiahuna Plantation over Makahuena.

Makahuena has fabulous views of the ocean from their bluff - but Kiahuna has beautiful grounds, a wonderful beach right in front, and it is easy to walk to restaurants and shopping.

Both have their "pros" - but Kiahuna would be my personal choice based on the location and grounds, etc.

I'm wondering that too. It makes me think something goes on after they roll the sidewalks up at 9PM?

No, not much of anything goes on in Poipu after 9 p.m. The vibe of Poipu is it's mostly family-oriented and not much happening in the evening. "Vibe" just means atmosphere or mood. Actually, this is the vibe of the entire island - quiet and relaxing.
