Marriott Waiohai - best place to book it?

Is there a way to rent at this property that will give us a better rate than 660/night? It seems a bit steep considering we will be off exploring most of the day, but we would like a nice beachfront condo so this seems like a good choice. Looking at a 5 night stay Aug 17-22, 2008. Thanks!

This is a timeshare property of Marriott so perhaps you could find one of those sites that sells weeks for people who booked but now can't go.

You can try the on-line travel sites (expedia, travelocity, sidestep, hotwire, priceline, etc.) to see if they can get you better rates than the Marriott site, but this is a very popular timeshare resort, so they probably don't have many rooms open and discounted.

If you're willing to try a 1 or 2 bedroom condo in the greater Poipu area at a lower price point ($175 to $350/night) you might look at Kuhio Shores Condos (Oceanfront, $pectacular panoramic views) or Prince Kuhio Condos (many with partial Oceanviews, pool), both on Spouting Horn road near Lawai beach, just 1-2 miles west of the M. Waiohai. Look on-line at photos of units available (vrbo.com, etc.); some have better views and are more updated than others. Try a google/image search for other pics of these condos as well.

The east shore is nice in summer and you could also get a luxurious 2 bedroom oceanview beachfront condo at Waipouli Beach Resort in Kapa'a/Waipouli for $300-$400/night (search vrbo for owner direct rental pricing).

We booked this site for $599 total for 5 nights by calling the Marriott Timeshare and asking if they had any promotions going on if we were willing to sit thru a 90 minute timeshare presentation. They offered the $599 rate for a 2 bedroom plus a free rental car for the 6 days. That might be worth checking out..

we were going to do the Mariott but decided to go with the Sheraton-i heard the beach is not swimable at the Mariott, hence the extremley large pool. also, try doing a package deal: air, car, hotel..it might come out a little cheaper...we are going to the sheraton next week.

The Marriott Waiohai is next to one of the most swimmable beaches on Kauai!

An earlier poster may have been confused when talking of Marriott Waiohai and a large pool and unswimable beach. There are Two Marriott resorts on Kauai... 1) The big combination hotel and timeshare Marriott Kauai resort in Lihue on Kalapaki beach (that has the large circular resort pool) and 2) The smaller and newer Timeshare only (2 Bedroom/2 bath Villas) Marriott Waiohai Beach Club resort on Poipu beach on the sunny south shore (near the Sheraton). It has three smaller pools, lush grounds with waterfalls, jaccuzi spas, BBQ grills, and excellent swimming and snorkeling off Poipu beach most of the year.
