I agree that anywhere here on the South Side of the island in the Po'ipu Beach area is not going to be exactly "private" -- there are just so many people for the number of beaches that we do have. Also it is true that all beaches in the state are public -- it is the access to them that is sometimes difficult and what makes what people consider a "private" beach.

Having said that -- the previous poster had a good recommendation. If you don't mind driving a big on a dirt road and hiking a little to the beach -- the Maha'ulepu Beach/Coast area is wonderful and comparatively uncrowded -- at least it is so large that usually you can find a place that is private. You take the dirt road just past the Grand Hyatt to get there -- anyone here can give you directions easily - - there are several parking areas for it as well.

By far the most popular place for a sunset/beach wedding here in the area would be Shipwreck's Beach -- by the Grand Hyatt. It is constantly being used for weddings -- it is a beautiful place and easy to get to -- just not considered "private" by any stretch of the imagination.

Just depends on how important "easy access" is to you!

My husband and I were married in a GORGEOUS sunset ceremony on Ke'e Beach. It was simply breathtaking and our pictures reflect that :-) It beats the south shore hands down. And less busy!

"Less busy" at Ke'e Beach? I guess that depends on the time of year and day. We went in June, could not find any parking and went back to the house. And everytime I've been there in the past, there have been a ton of people there.

I wanted to also let you know about a small rental house on Maha'ulepu Beach. It's called the Gillin Beach House. It has a private road to the house and the beach in front is usually always deserted.

We rented this one year but changed our minds at the last minute. I had a 3 month old and was a bit nervous about being so secluded.

At the very least, you can see aerial photos of the area on the website.

We were married on Ke'e in February and yes, there were a few people there at sunset, perhaps a dozen, and they stayed respectfully away and gave us our privacy :-)

ah, February! That explains the "not too busy" Ke'e Beach. I've glad the weather coorperated for you. When we stayed on the north shore in February, it rained straight for 5 days.

Certainly "martik"---- "Gillin's Beach House" is an absolutely incredible place -- it would be an absolute dream to stay there -- and you are also right -- the beach in front of it is pretty empty generally.

Just in passing: the owner of the "Gillin's Beach House" is one of my neighbors here in the condo complex that I live in -- it has been in the family for years and years!

We just returned from Kauai. We were married at Shipwreck Beach in Poipu. We had a gorgeous ceremony right next to the Grand Hyatt. If you want to get married on the sand with the "rock and water" in the backround it is absolutely stunning. We chose a grassy area right off the sand that was surrounded by palm trees galore. The backround of our pics are palm trees, blue pacific waters and the infamous rock. All the beaches are public in Hawaii, but eventhough there may be sunbathers you can still find a quiet spot unspoiled by people. We used Mohala Weddings as our planners. We had a great minister named Niles. He was a clean- cut Japanese man. He and his wife sang and he played the ukelele. I'd be more than willing to share pics with you if you like, just email me.
