Wyndham Beach Viilas or Bali Hai?
Save

We are visiting Kauai in July 2008. We would like to stay at one of the Wyndham time-share properties. Since Wyndam recently took over Pahio, there is very little specific resort info available in the catalog. If anyone out there can give us advice about where to stay, we would REALLY appreciate it. Beach Villas are in Lihue, Bali Hai is in Princeville. The other resorts are not available for booking yet but may be soon. (Ka Eo & Shearwater). We are traveling with our young adult children ages 21 & 18, my husband is an avid golfer, we all love the beach & snorkeling. Wyndham says they are renovating all of these properties, but if they are dumpy, I'd like to know, we will book in to a hotel and use the time-share points on another island.

Aloha from Kaua'i!

I can tell you a little about the location of the Pahio Kauai Beach Villas -- I have never stayed there and can't comment on the inside of the property however. Hopefully someone else can give you that information here - also help you with your question about Bali Hai on the North Shore.

It is located very close to the Lihu'e Airport -- on the way to Kapa'a.

It is set well off the main highway and is very close to the Hilton Kauai Beach Resort - they share the same entrance off the highway.

It is located on a lovely stretch of beach, but the ocean there is not swimmable -- it does have a swimming pool however. You are also within easy driving distance (5 minutes) to Lydgate Park - a very popular swimming area that has all the amenities (lifeguard, showers, bathrooms, picnic tables, keiki pool area)

You are very centrally located and would have easy access to driving to either the North Shore or the South - West side of the island. The only thing to consider is that traffic on the highway is very busy during commute hours -- there is a "contra flow" lane that is set up in the morning to help with the commute -- cones are manually set up and taken down each morning -- I'm not sure about the time but I believe it is about 7am and taken down around 10am --someone from the East Side know for sure?

It looks very nice from the outside -- well maintained. As I said however I don't know how the property looks from the inside.

Hope any of this helps and hope others can comment on the things that I just don't know -- also about the Bali Hai property.

Malama Pono,

Janet

I have more pictures of the KBV resort because we are owners there. I love the place. I would say it's not as "fancy" as the Bali Hai units, but we like the central somewhat secluded location. We've always gone during the middle of winter, so like having quicker access to most sides of the island----if the weather is good north, we go north. But good weather north in winter isn't dependable.

The time of year you are going, you may enjoy Bali Hai more. It's not on a beach, but on a cliff over looking the ocean. Princeville has the more "ritzy" resorts and expensive golf courses. It's also closer to what I believe are some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. For some of my pictures throughout all of Kauai check out:

I would certainly be happy with either place. They are both gold crown resorts and hopefully Wyndham will keep them that way.

Just an added note----Wyndham seems to be concentrating more on Bali Hai. They are still constructing new buildings there and putting in higher end stuff to attract buyers. KBV is sold out and not being built on or renovated nearly as quickly as it was before Wyndham took over.

Thank you so much for the info!!! From your pics I think Bali Hai looks nicer, but,we are going with the kaui beach villas. I love the idea of having an ocean view, and we are more centrally located. I feel that if we stay way up in Princeville, touring the rest of the island will be difficult.

There's a good chance you wont get an ocean view at Kauai Beach Villas, either. There are only 3 buildings in that resort (of 8 buildings) that have ocean views. None of the 1 bedroom/1baths have ocean views. All the 1 bedroom/2 baths and 2 bedrooms do have nice views, though---either of the ocean, or of the lagoon. It is nice having an ocean view, but we really don't mind the lagoon view either. The beach isn't swimmable, but it is beautiful to walk along. Great place to catch a sunrise. There is a rather economical golf course nearby in Kapaa and a great man made snorkeling beach also nearby. I also like that there are several grocery stores, Costco, Walmart, and restaurants near Kauai Beach Villas.

Stay at Bali Hai! My family and I go to Kauai every year and are owners at Bali Hai and Kea eo Kai. Princeville is the best place to be on the Island.

Does anyone have any pictures or information on Ka"Eo Kai? We are going there the middle of May for 2 weeks. Have they done any renovations to this resort. From some of the reviews, it needed a facelift.

We will be in a one bedroom the first week and my brother and wife will be joining us the second week and we will have a 2 bedroom unit. Hopefully, they will put us up in a lock out unit so we won't have to move everything, and just open up the other section.

IF you do have to move, they make it easy. Just pack your stuff up and bag the groceries and leave everything in the room. Then go out for the day and when you come back, they've moved it for you. As far as renovations, that's a sore spot with us Pahio owners. They were ever so slowly renovating the condos in all the Pahio resorts, then Wyndham took over and seems like they're only concentrating on the new construction at Bali Hai. If you can, ask for a recently renovated room and see what they say.
